We already know that NASA is researching the possibility of creating 3D printed food, so that one day we will surely have replicators just like in Star Trek. And now 3D pizza is here! NASA funded mechanical engineer Anjan Contractor to help in the development of a food printer.
They hope that one day they can feed astronauts during long space trips and it looks promising so far. Anjan showed off his first prototype of this 3D food printer and created a tiny pizza. The prototype device Anjan created uses powdered ingredients that can be kept fresh for years as opposed to standard ingredients. We are talking long space flights after all.

The video above shows that the 3D printer is able to create the pizza by pouring tomato sauce and cheese on top of a layer of dough. A heated plate placed underneath the pizza dough heats it all up, and you are left with a crispy pizza fit for an astronaut. Hopefully one day soon we will be able to dine in style in space. Space restaurants will be a good money-maker one day and we are on our way. Next they should try a grilled cheese sandwich. Start with all of the comfort foods.
