YouTube Movie Rentals Now Available

Back in January YouTube began testing a movie rental service that would allow YouTube users to watch TV shows and movies on their computers. As of today the YouTube movie rental service has gone live in the US.

YouTube users are now able to rent episodes of TV show and movies for forty eight hours, a single TV episode will cost you $0.99 whilst a movie will cost you $3.99.

The service is now available at YouTube.com/store, and it looks like it is only available on the US version of YouTube as it wasn’t available when we tried it from the UK.

Movie and TV show rentals are paid for using Google’s Checkout service, and you can stream the videos to your computer or HDTV.

This could be very interesting for Netflix and iTunes for that matter. A key for me will be the ability to stream on my large screen HDTV. For now, I just connect my MacBook Pro and can watch Hulu no problem. Since I also have a PS3, I use that to stream Netflix offerings. Will I be able to get a similar experience from YouTube will be the question.
