Cool Gadgets – Toshiba’s Talking Robot acts as a universal remote – ApriPoko
Check out this funky looking robot from Toshiba called ApriPoko.

This clever little robot weighs 5 lbs and measures 8 x 11 inches. ApriPoko learns how to operate various remote controls by watching and asking questions.

Set him up in your living room and when you use your TV remote he will ask you ‘What did you just do?”, you then tell the robot what you just did, for example “switched to channel 1″, the next time you want to switch to channel one, you just say the command and ApriPoko will change the channel for you.

ApriPoko can be programmed to work with any device with a remote control, so you could have him closing your electric curtains or dropping your projector screen from the ceiling all from voice commands.

I have to admit this is one of the coolest gadgets I have seen in a long time. Although the ApriPoko is only a prototype at the moment, lets hope he goes into production as I bet this would be a really popular gadget.

I like the Idea, but the tech. should, (and in my opinion WILL be,) integrated in a more professional manner. IE: built strait into the remote your using, or more like a central CPU for the household…

That looks really awesome! It makes so much sense to have the remote program itself, and having it be a whole robot is so cool! Still, it’s design seems oddly similar to the turrets in Portal…

ApriPoko is the most awesome little robot I have ever seen. I hope Toshiba do go ahead and develop this little gadget as it would be one of the cutest little robots ever. The video was really cool, I was interested in seeing the robot in action. Too bad the video didn’t show the learning process, though.
