Synaptics ClearPad 3000 Touchscreen
Synaptics has shown of their latest touchscreen technology, the Synaptics ClearPad 3000 Touchscreen.
The Synaptics ClearPad 3000 Touchscreen can register up to 10 fingers simultaneously, it is designed to be used in high end mobile phones like the iPhone, as well as hand held gaming consoles, check out the video of it in action below.

The Synaptics ClearPad 3000 Touchscreen has 48 sensing channels which means it can pick up 10 fingers at once, and apparently the technology will scale up to 8 inch screens, check out the video of it in action below.
It certainly looks very impressive from the video, hopefully we will see it in mobile phones next year and who know we many even see it in the next generation iPhone.

I don’t understand. How is a 10 finger multi touch screen that small of any use?

“I don’t understand. How is a 10 finger multi touch screen that small of any use?”
Its not the size that counts… hehe. It really isn’t of any use that small but the idea of having that with a large touchscreen would be extremely beneficial. Its similar to the whole IPv6 thing, you have a huge amount of IP’s available which will never be completely used anytime soon. However, in 20 years we might be at the same place we are with IPv4. Its all about thinking about the future. Since everything seems to be going towards touchscreen you’ll need to have a multi-touch feature. Think of Star Trek TNG and later… they use Multi-touch touchscreens (if they actually existed back then).
In short, there really isn’t a benefit to it right now, but in the future when touchscreens come down in price and they start getting bigger this technology will really kick in.
