We’ve heard the rumors for months that the Start Button would be returning when Windows 8.1 launches this summer and now a leaked screenshot seems to confirm it. The button had been a popular navigation tool within Windows until it was ditched by the new ‘re-imagined’ OS.
People miss it. We all like the familiar after all. Windows blogger Paul Thurrott has shown off a screen grab obtained from the most recent preview built with the Start Button back at the bottom left corner of the screen.
However, ZDnet’s Mary Jo Foley says that the functionality may be different. Sources tell her that hitting the new Start Button will bring up an ‘All Apps’ screen with icons and no tiles. Seems like a good compromise from Microsoft, but we will have to learn more and get all of the details.
