Just after Snap went public at a valuation of $24 billion(That’s right 24 billion), the Android version of Snapchat crossed the 500 million downloads mark on Google Play. That’s pretty good news for the company and good news for Android users as well. I’ll get back to that in a minute.
In spite of this latest crowning achievement though, everybody’s favorite image messaging app still remains more popular on iOS devices. Maybe that’s not very surprising. Even so, the company promises that more efforts will be put toward improving the Android version of Snapchat, since it still lags behind its iOS counterpart on multiple counts. So Android users can look forward to those improvements and everything will work even smoother in the future. The Android version may even become more popular at some point.
On a related news, riding the wave of recent successes, Snap last month made its camera-equipped spectacles available for purchase online. Up until then, the weird/fashionable shades, depending on your perspective, were only available in Snap’s pop-up store in New York and from vending machines. The company is making a lot of strides to make users happy across all devices and that is perhaps the best strategy they could employ.
