Security hole discovered in Instagram iOS app

If you use the Instagram app on your iOS device to take and share photos, you might want to know that according to a researcher, there is a vulnerability within the app that will give hackers access to your account, which means they can take over it and even delete your photos.

It has to do with the way the app authenticates itself with the Instagram servers, through the use of unencrypted cookies to confirm your account info with the Instagram servers. So if you used Instagram while connected to an unsecure network, whoever controls that WiFi access point can in theory grab that cookie, which can be used to access your account by connecting with Instagram’s servers.

The researcher who discovered this has tried to tell Instagram about it, but it seems that he has had no response after a months time.
