On February 22, 2011 there was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand. 185 people were killed and it caused billions of dollars of damage. Amazingly 18 months later, one couple has recovered pictures from a camera that they thought was destroyed in the quake. At least something good came out of the devastation.
The couple had just returned from their honeymoon the day of the quake so there were 2.5GB of pictures taken at the wedding and on the honeymoon. While they were evacuating their damaged home, they lost track of the camera. They assumed that even if the camera survived, it would have been washed away by the floods.
They found the crushed camera in the driveway last week in pieces, but the 4GB Adata SD card looked fine. After removing and cleaning up the card, they got the computer to read the files. All 2.5GB of pictures were recovered. There’s a happy ending and some memories were saved.
