The Sony PlayStation 4 has a significantly revamped DualShock 4 controller. One with a cool light bar. It is great for a cool effect, but it does draw from the controller’s battery, when you want more battery life for the actual gaming. Some gamers want more battery life and less flair so Sony is on the case.
Sony has a fix. Head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios at Sony, Shuhei Yoshida, has confirmed that a software fix will give users the option to dim the PS4 DualShock 4 light bar. While he mentioned a firmware update, Yoshida didn’t clarify if the fix will come with an update for the console or if Sony plans on releasing the fix through a controller-specific update.
That’s great news either way. Battery life shouldn’t be drained by simple lights, it should be drained by hardcore gaming after several hours and only hardcore gaming. Gamers will at least be able to dim the light. We don’t know when the update will arrive, but at least we know it is on the way. Too bad we can’t turn it off completely.
