Not keeping multiplayer hostage makes PlayStation Plus a much more elective service than Microsoft’s Xbox Live. No doubt this isn’t news to Sony, which is why they’ve relaunched their PlayStation Plus service with the requisite fanfare at this year’s E3. And the biggest addition is the set of free games that players gain access to as soon as they sign up. Unfortunately, access to the games lasts only as long as your PlayStation plus subscription.
“Everything that you’ve enjoyed from PlayStation Plus remains very much the same. It’s still the same PlayStation Plus,” according to Jack Buser, Senior Director of PlayStation Digital Platforms. “So if you love the huge discounts, if you love the exclusive access to betas, if you love the other things that are also delivered by the service, you’re going to see that those other things are still a part of PlayStation Plus — the cloud saves, the automatic updates, all that other stuff.”
