But I thought the 02 simplicity cards don't work with the iPhone. But I'd be very happy to be corrected.

@Ian

you are right about the original prize of the iPhone eg £274, however you are not right about the monthly charges. I currently get 400 minutes and unlimited texts on my contract for £20. I don't see how anyone could really get on with the amount of texts and minutes you get with the £30 plan so most people will be looking at £35 and upwards (which is still a rip off).

The best way to do it in the long run if you really want one is to get an o2 simplicity sim card for £20 a month (with free web) and buy it on payg it works out cheaper.

Hi Ryder

I would be happy to pay the remaining subsidy to O2 for the remainder of the contract, there is no way this is close to £250.

An 18 month contract is an 18 month contract, not 12 months because you have an iphone, EVERY OTHER provider would have said the same thing to you if the cost of the phone was subsidized into that 18 month contract.

Dont wait for the 3gs to come out on t-mobile in the hope that the 'fiasco' wont return come next june!

Hi Ian

Thanks for your comment.

If I had to pay £274 for a 32GB iPhone 3GS I would happily do it, the fact that O2 want myself and every other existing iPhone 3G owner to buy ourselves out of our existing contract and then sign another 18 month contract with them is what is stopping me from doing it.

I purchased my iPhone 3G on launch day in the UK last year, for me to upgrade O2 want me to pay a total of £512, which is about £25 less than it would cost to buy a Pay as You Go iPhone 3GS.

I completely agree with removing the exclusivity of the iPhone but I disagree with your upgrade fiasco comment - I fail to see how paying to £274 for a 32gb iphone is a waste of money (it's £280 to buy a 32gb touch). You will argue that you have to then pay upwards from £30 per month, again you would pay this monthly fee for any phone.

Why should you get a cheaper upgrade just because you bought the iPhone 3G, it doesn't make sense. I bought the N95 2 years ago and I didn't expect to automatically upgrade to the N96 as soon as it is out.
