We recently told you about Nintendo’s plans for mini-games on smartphones. Well, we have some bad news.
Despite reports coming out of Japan, Nintendo will not be producing mini-games for smartphones, according to an official statement. “Nikkei’s article contains information previously stated by [CEO] Mr. Iwata during past press conferences, including statements which relate to Nintendo’s willingness to make use of smart devices to promote our products. However during such past announcements Mr. Iwata has also stated that Nintendo’s intention is not to make Nintendo software available on smart devices and as such, we can confirm that there are no plans to offer mini-games on smartphone devices,”.
Well it didn’t take long for the bubble to burst on that one. Nintendo has been struggling to maintain relevance during the past few years. Especially after the failure that is the Wii U console. Nintendo could theoretically gain some extra income by developing iOS or Android games, but it looks like that is not meant to be.
Since they are not going this route, it is hard to see how they are going to get back on top, short of rushing a new and better console to market.
