Nintendo 3DS audio gets improved with steampunk speakers

See that image? Doesn’t that look crazy, like some kind of old timey gadget mixed with a modern device? Well, sometimes you have to take extreme measures when your device’s sound sucks. This mod was shown off on YouTube, where a Japanese man has constructed a pair of clips that project the sound from the 3DS’ crappy speakers. The results? It sounds much better.

This crazy piece of gear is attached to a stand. The 3DS just sits on there and the speakers are attached using clips directly over the small speakers to the side of the screen. It’s pretty basic. Sound goes through the tubing and out the flared ends amplified.

It’s a bit tinny, but much better than normal. He gets extra points for the stand having a slot to hold the stylus. If Nintendo had provided halfway decent sound, this guy wouldn’t have needed to do this. Still, I’m glad he did. It’s pretty cool.
