Mojang hasn’t had much to say about a sequel to Minecraft but once Microsoft purchased Mojang last year some believed that we might finally get some news about a possible Minecraft 2 release. Well, sadly it looks like things have not changed. Sorry fans.
Mojang says that for now a Minecraft 2 release is off the table. So stop getting excited about it and move onto something else. Mojang CEO Jonas Martensson said that there have been no discussions about Minecraft 2 at this time. In fact he expects the first Minecraft game to be supported through to 2020. Wow. We could be in for quote a wait then.
Martensson doesn’t rule out the possibility of Minecraft 2 in the future “but for the foreseeable future there won’t be.” So yeah, if we ever get one, it will be a long time from now.
Matt Booty, Microsoft Game Studios general manager, said that the company has “never” had a conversation about Minecraft 2 because Minecraft is viewed as more of a platform that will be continually updated over time. I guess that makes sense. Why redo what is always being upgraded? There’s no real point.
Martensson and team will be listening to player feedback and will continue to work on updates to Minecraft so that your experience will be better. They are also working on releasing the game for as many platforms as they can right now. So they are pretty busy.
