Microvisions Mini Handheld Projector
Microvision have released details of a new mini handheld digital projector that it will showcase at CES.

This mini handheld projector is battery powered and features the companies ultra-miniature PicoP display engine.â€Â
This mini gadget will project a DVD quality image at a resolution of 848×480, and can display the image on any surface with a size of 12 inches up to 100 inches depending on the projection distance.
The mini handheld projector will have 2.5 hours of playback and can be connected to laptops, digital cameras, mobiles and PMP’s.
This mini projector will go on sale sometime later in the year, no word on pricing has been announced.

Sigh. I really like how the projectors make the guy’s shirt and the paper in the locker *darker*. Now that’s a technological advance.

another semi-useless thing to shove in my pocket and make me less of a human

“help me obiwon kenobe, you’re my only hope” hehheeheheheh.

ah good point futreboy, thought it look too good. Just go’s to show that even working products have to be photoshopped these days, I wonder if it would even be practical to use one of these? You have to carry around a laptop with it(commonly includes a screen) and for presentations, no one could actually see it?
Novelty, cool though I must say.

another add-on to the iphone perhaps?
January 3rd, 2008 at 1:51 am
wait a second folks. I love this idea. Think about how it would work with ultra portable computing devices? You could set up a black fold-out background you keep in your briefcase to project a blackberry or other small display onto.
Why they bothered to show it with kids when the real-world application is so huge is beyond me.

i need this
January 3rd, 2008 at 2:08 am
not to mention the white spray of light coming from it.
liars!
January 3rd, 2008 at 2:09 am
I’d buy one if it got me chicks like the one in the back.
January 3rd, 2008 at 2:15 am
It’s the INSIDE of the locker. And OFCOURSE it’s photoshopped. It’s a f*****g ad.
January 3rd, 2008 at 2:21 am
That is soooo coool. Too bad I didn’t ask Santa for it for x-mas, maybe i’ll get it for my b-day.
January 3rd, 2008 at 2:49 am
What I would like to see is a display program, such as Acrobat Reader or PowerPoint, built in. That way you might not need a notebook computer. Just plug in flash memory. Or maybe the display program could be included in the flash memory?

Uhh….. lots of projectors use a combination of light frequencies that make portions of the WHITE projection screen appear darker…
You should have really taken issue with the fact that the image is so intense in full light…
Good lord, if you’re gonna be picky, at least make sense.
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:01 am
Looks pretty cool to me, but I bet it will be too pricey since it seems like a toy for someone like me. A sales team might do well to be equipped with these though.
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:11 am
A display up to 100 inches from a hand-held projector? How many lumens does that little thing put out? I would think that something hand-held would have a lot of trouble lighting up even a small area, and the battery drain must be horrendous. And how hot does it get? Even with the best LED technology I can’t see how this would be worthwhile or even workable.
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:17 am
And it comes with cute asian chicks? What a bargain!
January 3rd, 2008 at 3:46 am
Interesting that they give all the stats like resolution and image size, and playback time – but nothing about brightness? Gee, wonder why?
January 3rd, 2008 at 4:20 am
If they could integrate this with a video ipod or something, it could be very popular.
Instead of one person barely being able to see the video on their tiny screen, now 3 people could crowd around a slightly larger screen.
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:32 am
i think it even going to be lamer, like one of those picture viewer keychains that requires an sd card like the one in your digital camera, why not just use the camera
i feel it wont do much but show images and movies loaded onto it and it will only have like a gig of storage, but cost a shit load
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:52 am
finally i can project my p***s on the wall..10″
January 3rd, 2008 at 5:54 am
You know how everyone got paranoid when cameraphones started getting into full swing? Well what about when these go on phones?
January 3rd, 2008 at 6:17 am
heh look at the locker… the image goes off the paper =/ that was so badly photoshopped lol
January 3rd, 2008 at 6:31 am
xstyr
what do you mean I wonder if this is usefull. Just look at it you can like shine it on some ones back and in the back of lockers.
The sad thing is that people might actually buy this.
kids save your money and get or do something better.

That’s cool man… that’s called advancement of technology
January 4th, 2008 at 4:52 am
another not so useful feature to attract rich people and make them poor!
January 4th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Haha, these crackpot ideas alwas amuse me…
So, I’m guessing those obviously super-imposed images on the kid’s back, and the locker are not coming from the device as you can’t make the t-shirt darker than it actually is – well not in daylight anyway…
Plus, the girl on the left appears to be holding a motorola razr, and the one right looks to be holding a completely different mobile.
anyway, i’m gonna order me one of these, and one of them glass toasters – idiots.

Hi Guys
The image above is from their press release, they will be showcasing this mini projector at this years CES.
It will be interesting to see how the product actually works, and if it works well.
If it does then we could see this technology in our mobile phones in a few years.

wow thats like totly awsum u can like take a pic of a kick me sign and put it on sum 1s back XD YA WOOT
January 6th, 2008 at 3:53 am
is the locker closed or open? look closely.
and of course its photoshopped, but thats because the real one doesn’t look nearly as cool as it would on a phone.
whats with the hot Asians chicks? i don’t see any.
this would be better on a phone than just buying one, it would be cool on a phone
January 6th, 2008 at 8:27 am
Guys,
It’s a color laser beam. That should actually give you a bright and high contrast image. I wonder what the refresh rate is, though.
January 7th, 2008 at 7:45 am
to those of you who keep stating that a projector can’t make a screen/t-shirt darker than it actually is: wtf are you talking about? have any of you ever actually used a projector, or seen one used? ever been to the movies? you can project green/blue/red/brown or any color onto a white screen and make it darker. how do you think you can see ANYTHING projected onto a white screen? true, it’d be damn hard to see in full light, such as in that picture, but that’s a problem with brightness not the ability to make a white object darker.
January 10th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
I guess its an easy way of putting “kick me” on the teachers back! (Perhaps something even more rude?!)
January 14th, 2008 at 7:57 am
why do 6th graders get everything?
February 17th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
Ok, so the photo is obviously faked, but the product is still something a lot of people might find useful. It won’t work as well as advertised in full light, but it doesn’t take too much effort to darken a room a little bit.
November 28th, 2008 at 1:30 pm
Man, if you thought people with laser pointers were annoying, just wait until you try to give a speech and some jackass puts a penis on your forehead with one of these.

imagine teachers writing something on board and some student showing Porn on his backside…
Any ways, seems like a nice technology, but
1) it has to give good resolution
2) It has to be affordable(@cell phone cost)
3) There has to be a big marketing behind it…
Otherwise, this will become one more trillion $ potential product, in the dust bean…
