Madonna has premiered a video for her new single on Snapchat, the ephemeral messaging app that is now valued at $10 billion. Fans of the material girl will want to check out her single “Living for Love.”
I’m not sure if this is a good move or a bad move for the singer, but it seems like a desperate move. And I’m not sure this kind of thing is all that great for Snapchat either. Do people really want that much content from Snapchat? You might remember that Snapchat has a new Discover section where videos, web series from media outlets like Vice, CNN and ESPN are stored. The thing is we already have YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon for streaming video.
Snapchat should stick to what it does best. Self-destructing pics. Maybe Madonna will get some views and maybe she might even get some fans, but I doubt that everyone will be rushing to snapchat in mass to see her tired butt belt another mediocre song out. I mean, it won’t even have a left shark. It just seems weird thinking about Snapchat as having content. Then again, does a Madonna video really count as content? I guess I’m just not a fan.
