We purchased two of these drives for our office backup systems (we run a graphic design company). The moment we got these two Lacie Big 5's set up, one had performance issues (taking days to pull a 2 Gig file from). DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE.After sending working with Lacie, they sent a new drive that was equally as poor. After we had all our information copied over we one entire drive was corrupt and had to be sent into Lacie. DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE.After 1 month and hours upon hours of the worst customer service you can imagine, they said that it will cost $1,500 to send back our data! DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE. The customer service awful and these drives are a complete waste of time and money!!!

DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE. I have had the Lace Big5 for about 9 months and I have found it to be extremely unreliable. It will lose connection whenever I transfer files from my mac to it. I have another NAS here (NEtgear), that has never let me down.

DO NOT BUT THIS PRODUCT! I purchased two 5Bigs and both have had severe problems and result in the same thing, data loss. LaCie support is horrible and I have had the exact same kinds of responses. I was planning to deploy about 90 of these devices for use for some remote software storage etc. Needless to say I bought buffalo drives instead.

I agree with both of you. I have had exactly the same issues - system hanging, sent back 2 twice at my own cost, with lacie saying both times that nothing is wrong. Shame on you Lacie for creating such a terrible product.

I can absolutely agree with Mike. It's network access is faulty and the operating system hangs. since network access is the only way to access thias unit, you end up reloading, reconfiguring, and resyncronizing everytime the system hangs. Resyncronization of drives is now taking 63 hours before use. I've had to reconfigure at least 3 times so far and all three times I've lost all data and time (luckily this was not original data)... I've sent the unit back to LaCie 3 times so far (each time having to pay out of the pocket to send it in - 58$ ea)... to which they've sent "refurbished" units... this 3rd unit STILL DOESN'T WORK!... and the comment they sent back was "well, sorry you're still having trouble, if you would like us to look at it again, please send it in under the previous return/support policies..." I really doubt it if these units are in fact "repaired" now, as they never really told me what they found - only that "the problem was resolved by sending me a 'new' unit"....I used to trust LaCie... but as a personal hard drive... I wouldn't trust them with larger systems, units, large storage, or system backups anymore....

This product is not reliable.
