Clever Concepts – The Float Away Notebook – keeps your Notebook cool
By Roland Hutchinson on Tuesday 11th March 2008 8:31 am in Concepts
Everyone knows the amount of heat a notebook pumps out, and sometimes they get to hot, well designer Young Hwan Kim has the solution, the Float Away Notebook.

The back end of the notebook is elevated which allows the heat to dissipate into the air, keeping your notebook nice and cool.

This idea is so simple yet brilliant, I am really surprised some notebook manufacturers haven’t thought of this before, then again they wouldn’t be able to sell us aftermarket notebook coolers and stands as there would be no need for them.

They already have thought of this. Flip your laptop over and take note of the little rubber ‘feet’ in the corners…

Hi Mngrif
Unfortunately the little rubber feet do nothing to keep the laptop cool or off the surface, they aren’t high enough, plus they are on all four corners
This design is elevated at the back quite a bit higher than the front if you look at the 2nd picture you can see this, keeping the hot parts off the desk allowing the heat to dissipate.

I would hardly call this a solution. In fact you could say its a step backwards. A lower front takes away at least 1/4 the potential airflow. Plus you now have a protruding bar to deal with. Laptops suffer most when used on a soft surface. (bed, blanket, carpet, pillow) Something that would allow the venting somewhere other than the bottom would be best. I’d like to see someone incorporate heat pipes into a laptop, running the radiant elements up the back surface of the screen.

i think that the fan version already available in the market is better at keeping the computer cool plus its a little cheaper.
