Major services on the internet don’y usually announce that they will be shutting down for hours at a time, but that is what is happening here. Flickr announced today that tomorrow it will be shut down for six hours. Yep, that’s six hours that the service won’t be available on the web and through mobile devices.
This is so that Flickr can undergo “planned maintenance” from 4pm to 10pm PDT on July 25th. A site wide notice will be go out an hour before the service is shut down to make sure that none of the users are caught by surprise while they are looking at neat pictures.
During that time, Flickr’s API will also not be available. No word on just what they hope to accomplish from this maintenance.
