Cool Concepts – The Robot Lamp – Interacts with its environment
Check out this cool lighting concept from designer Chris Natt, the Stimuli 3.0 (or robot lamp).
The design was done over a period of 3 years, and Chris wanted to create a lighting system that interacted with the surrounding light.
The fruition of a 3 year project to create a lighting system whose shape and therefore light output sensitively varies inversely with the surrounding natural light intensity. For example, at dusk, illumination gradually increases as natural light recedes. At the heart of this device is a unique 3 axis gear box which enables this subtle alteration of lighting through an attractive and striking change in form of the device.
So basically as the light changes around you, the robot light is designed to adjust to keep the light level constant.
The concept is a great idea, but the lamp looks really cool, I would love to have one of those sat on my desk.

While it’s not a new idea, it’s a novel approach.
Although, I’m not sure I’d like the sound of whirring gears & servos…
