Cool Concepts – The P-Per Mobile.

Check out this cool concept mobile phone from design firm Chocolate Agency.

The design consists of just 4 layers, a printed circuit board, extruded polycarbonate, recycled titanium, and a wrap around flexible haptic LED touchscreen.

Not exactly a novelty considering most touchscreen, tech-toting mobile phones out in the market. What made it stand out though is the proposed materials in making it. By minimizing materials, the design is highly sustainable. However, the tech needed for making this possible isn’t exactly cheap, making it a thingamajig only the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates of this world can afford (and you can’t even count on either Stevie and Billy buying this because the former already owns the entire iPhone production and the latter the MicroSoft Zune). Still, it doesn’t take away the fact that this is a very cool concept. Anyone has a decent guess when they can make this go mass production? I sure hope it’s in our lifetime.

The wrap around screen allows for endless user interface possibilities not to mention bezeless picture/movie taking and watching.

If that weren’t enough to challenge the iPhone, how about a 7mm wafer thin form factor, 3 megapixel camera, and a 2 minute recharge time!

This is a stunning looking concept, I would love to see something like this go into production.

What do you think?

It definitely rivals (and surpasses) the iPhone! Style-wise and feature-wise.
I’ll be interested in how it manages the 2 minute recharge time. This’ll be great for commuters who suddenly realise their battery’s dead a couple of minutes before they leave the house!

P.S. I’m not sure if my last post came through, sorry if this is a double/triple post!

What a concept. Looks literally impossible, no such thing as invisible processors, or memory, etc. There’s no space for any of it.

Nor an invisible camera, for that matter. What I’m saying is this: I can draw pretty things, too. It’s making them realistic AND pretty that counts.

    pure awesome

    @Keith: You’re a moron.

@design: Awesome. I’d definitely take this over an iPhone.

Yay, yet another lofty concept operating on the tried and true principles of magic.

you can make very flat processors in the circuit board

The phone isn’t clear you idiots. That last picture simply show the 4 layers the phone is made of, the top layer being the clear plastic that will protect the screen. Idiots.

Have you checked out the size of microcontrollers, memory, and components these days? A 2GB nand flash chip used in your usb thumb drive only stands about 3mm tall and is only about .7cm x 1.2 cm in size. Go take a look on digikey or a site that sells/distributes flash memory and you’ll see. Even digital camera lens are extremely small (such as the ones already common in cell phones) and most microcontrollers aimed at cell phone platforms have built in support for them. As an example, the Ti (texas instraments) DaVinci DSP media system on a chip. It operates at 297Mhz, has io for just about any device, and is 19mm x 19mm x 4.19mm (L x W x H). Invisible components? Keep up with tech

would love to have one of these phones

Hmm, no need for invisibility cameras and the like: give me a pure touch screen dimensioned phone on one side, the camera on the back, incorporate Warwick Audio Technologies’ membrane thin directional speakers possibly under the screen, and run Google android = you have a phone that will out sell the iPhone ten times over. (Needless to say, it’ll need features like video/audio playback etc.)
