Flashsticks is a small UK operation which specialise in the creation of wooden USB pen drives. Each drive is made from locally hardwood wood from a renewable source. Because of the material employed, each USB ‘stick’ is unique, no two sticks are the same.

We have seen tons of different memory card readers here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one from the guys over at Elecom, looks like it might be one of the most useful we have seen, the Elecom Magnetic Card Reader.

Rather than placing it on your desk, it comes with a magnetic backing which lets you attach it to the side of your PC or any metal surface.

It looks like it will support the majority of memory cards including, SD, microSD and Memory Stick Duo, and it will come in a range of funky colors.

If your a Trekkie or Vulcan for that matter, then this ‘Live long and prosper’ hand gesture 2GB USB flash drive is definitely something you should check out.

Point Grey has unveiled the worlds first USB 3.0 web camera, which is capable of capturing full HD video in 1080P at 60 frames per second.

The web camera features a 3 megapixel Sony CMOS sensor, that can capture video in a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (1080p).

“One of the potential benefits of the increased bandwidth of USB 3.0 is that it allows the main processor to handle compression,” explained Point Grey spokesperson Vlad Tucakov. “This means that different types of compression can be used for different applications and that some applications, like face recognition, can work on uncompressed video data for increased performance. We certainly see USB 3.0 as a key interface technology for machine and computer vision, and one we plan to integrate into future Point Grey imaging products.”

There is no word on pricing or availability as yet.

The Sony USM-L Microvault USB Drive comes in a range of different sizes, including 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, but it has an interesting feature that sets it apart from most of the USB drives available.

The Sony USM-L Microvault USB Drive features a ‘Click to Open’ mechanism, which works in a similar way to a ballpoint pen, just click on the top of the drive and the USB adapter appears out the bottom, click again and the USB connector disappears inside the drive.

The $3,000 Steampunk USB Flash Drive

We absolutely love anything to do with Steampunk here on Geeky Gadgets, and when I spotted this cool handmade Steampunk USB drive I thought it looked very cool until I noticed the price.

Most of the stuff that appears on Etsy seems to be reasonably priced, unfortunately this isn’t one of those items, as you will have to part with $3,000 to get your hands on it.

For that price I would expect it to be made from a precious metal, sadly it is made from brass and copper, and whilst we think it looks really cool, I am still unsure why it is being sold for $3,000, unless it was a typo and it should be $300.

If you have a lot of spare cash, and fancy a unique USB drive, then head on over to WillRockwell’s shop over at Etsy.

Corsair has added a new flash drive to its range, which it is calling the ‘World’s fastest high capacity USB flash drive’

The Corsair Flash Voyager GT 128GB features read speeds of up to 32MB/s and write speeds of up to 25.6MB/s, with the with the limiting factor effectively being the speed of the USB 2.0 bus and operating system overhead.

“High performance is a key requirement for super-high capacity flash drives, such as the 128GB Voyager GT, simply because it is able to store such a large volume of data,” said John Beekley, the VP of Applications at Corsair. “The 128GB Voyager GT is nearly twice as fast as other high-capacity flash drives, which means less time waiting for your music, video or office files to copy to and from the drive.”

The Corsair Flash Voyager GT 128GB features a durable, water resistant rubber case which is designed to protect it from accidental damage.
