Cisco has launched a free application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, that is designed to provide you with customized alerts of new security threats and more information on safe web browsing.

The Application is powered by Security Intelligence Operations, and it is designed to inform, protects, and enables you to respond to alerts and real-time threats to your network and users.

Customized threat alerts, new security signatures, mitigation bulletins, all the up to the second info you need delivered right to your iPhone in real time.

The App is called Cisco SIO To Go, and it is available now as a free download from iTunes

Hacker Adds Intel Atom Support To Snow Leopard 10.6.2

When Apple [AAPL] released the updated version of Mac OS X just over a week ago, it removed support for Intel Atom processors, which meant that anyone running Mac OS X on a Hackintosh netbook wouldn’t be able to upgrade to the latest version.

A Russian hacker by the name of Tea has released a patched kernel specifically for the Intel Atom processor, and apparently it is as easy as copying the patched kernel to the root level of your drive, and then rebooting to get 10.6.2 to run.

The new BlackBerry Pearl 9100 looks like a slimmer version of the BlackBerry 9700, it features a SureType QWERYU keyboard, plus a newly designed battery.

Banned Xbox Owners File Class Action Lawsuit

Last week we told you that Microsoft has banned hundreds of thousands of Xbox 360 owners who were using modded consoles, from Xbox Live.

Well it looks like the banned Xbox users are going to take Microsoft to court over the banning in a class action lawsuit.

As has been reported widely in the media, tens of thousands of Xbox owners have had their modified Xbox consoles banned from Microsoft’s online gaming service Xbox Live.

Although modification of Xbox consoles is *arguably* against the terms of use for Xbox/Xbox Live, Microsoft “conveniently” timed the Xbox console ban to coincide with the release of the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game and less than two months after the release of the very popular Halo 3: ODST game.

This “convenient” timing may have resulted in more Xbox Live subscription revenues for Microsoft than it would have generated had these Xbox console bans taken place at some time before the release of Halo 3: ODST and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

A law firm called Abington Law is filing a class action lawsuit against Microsoft on behalf of banned Xbox owners, and they allege that Microsoft has waited until Halo 3: ODST and Call of Dty Modern Warfare 2 were released, which are two massively popular games, before they banned Xbox 360 owners.

It will be interesting to see how it turns out, but I suspect Microsoft may win this one.

Other specifications include a range of Intel processors, which include Intel Core i7 processors, the option to have up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

On top of that there is Intel GMA 4500HD graphics, a 6 cell battery, built in 802.11b/g/n WiFI, HMDI, FireWire, VGA, eSATA, and a couple of USB 2.0 ports.

Google Chrome OS Revealed

Google [GOOG] has released more details about its upcoming Chrome OS, and some interesting features have been revealed, and it is completely different to the operating systems we use today like, Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

Google Chrome OS runs from the Google Chrome browser, there is no installation of the software on your PC, so you wont be able to use Firefox or IE with it, it is also designed to fix itself, with a focus on security.

Applications that run on Google’s Chrome OS run in their own environment, and it is designed to prevent viruses and malware from being installed on your PC, and it actually verifies the integrity of its own code, if the code is compromised, then it will reboot your PC and fix the problem.

All of the applications that run on Chrome OS are web applications, so you wont be able to install apps like Microsoft office on it, you also wont be able to install Google Android applications on it.

Another interesting piece of information is that Chrome OS doesn’t support any drivers, so it wont run on your laptop or PC, it will only work with solid state drives, and it is designed for netbooks, so you will be able to buy a Chrome OS netbook with the operating system pre-installed.

Google’s Chrome OS is designed to be fast, and Google are trying to create an instant on OS with Chrome, and in its current build it could boot to the login screen as quickly as 7 seconds, which is very fast compared to current OS boot times.

The Google Chrome OS is all operating from a Google account, and all your data is stored on a remote server rather than on your PC, this is designed to make it more secure.

Google intends to have launched its Chrome OS by the later part of next year, it certainly will be interesting to see how it works, and it could end up being a really handy OS for netbooks which most people use for simple tasks like email and web browsing whilst on the move.

We have been hearing about the upcoming Asus Eee PC 1201N NVIDA ION powered netbook from Asus for quite some time now, and many of us are still waiting for it to be available in the stores, good news, it looks like the Asus Eee PC 1201N will go on sale for $499.

Apple Tablet Delayed Until 2nd Half Of Next Year?

We have been hearing rumors of Apple’s [AAPL] upcoming tablet for quite some time now, let last rumor we heard is that the Apple Tablet would launch in the early part of next year.

Now it looks like the Apple Tablet may be delayed until the second half of next year, the reasons for this are apparently due to changes being made to components, one of which is a 9.7 inch OLED display made by LG.

There are two models rumored to launch of the Apple Tablet, one with a 9.7 inch screen which may feature an OLED display and one with a 10.6 inch TFT LCD display.

As usual with all Apple rumors, this needs to be take with a pinch of salt, i guess we will just have to wait until we get an official announcement from Apple.

Cisco have said that the new model will go on sale early next year, so no doubt we will end up seeing a preview of it at CES 2010 in January.

Nokia N900 Goes On Sale In The US

The Nokia N900 has finally gone on sale in the US, from today you will be able to get your hands on the new Nokia N900 for $649 from Nokia stores in New York and Chicago as well as from the Nokia website.

The Nokia N900 is powered by Nokia’s Maemo 5 OS, and it has a 3.5 inch WVGA touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480, a sliding Qwerty keyboard, and it is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 processor.

“Consumers from every segment of the population are looking for more out of their mobile device – more power, more ability, more connectivity. Mercedes Benz has launched a new mobile app that will let you control your shiny new Mercedes with your iPhone or BlackBerry, called mbrace.

The application will let you lock or unlock your car from a distance, as well as find its location on a map on your phone just in case your forget where you have parked it.

The application will also have a safety feature built in, that should you crash you car and the air bags are deployed, it will automatically call an mbrace customer specialist who will be able to help you, and if you don’t respond to the call, they will alert the authorities and send help your way, other features include a stolen vehicle location assistance and roadside assistance connection.

The mbrace system will be rolled out on all new Mercedes in 2010, and it is expected to be fully up and running by November 2010, it will also be able to be retro fitted to existing models.

iCarte Turns Your iPhone Into an RFID Reader

There have been a few rumors that the next generation Apple iPhone may contain a built in RFID tag reader, I guess we wont know until next year when apple release a new iPhone.

In the meantime a company called Wireless Dynamics has developed an accessory for the iPhone and iPod touch along with an app that can read RFID tags and near field communications, called the iCarte.

“We are excited about the introduction of NFC, RFID and contactless payment solutions for this (iPhone) game-changing smartphone platform with millions of users,” said Ambrose Tam, Chief Executive Officer of Wireless Dynamics Inc. “We anticipate that there will be many mobile payment and e-Commerce applications to be developed for the iPhone and iCarte™ to speed up the adoption of NFC and RFID.”

The iCarte slots onto your iPhone and plugs into your sync port, the device can then read RFID tags and transfer the data to the iPhone app.

It can also transmit NFC or FRID data over WiFi and 3G, and it is compatible with the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, and it even comes with a mini USB connector so you can still charge your iPhone when the device is plugged in.

AMD has launched their latest graphics card in their ATI Radeon range, which they are calling the worlds fastest graphics card, the AMD ATi Radeon HD 5970.

Magellan Launches RoadMate iPhone App And Car Kit

The latest company to launch a satellite navigation application for the iPhone is Magellan with the launch of their RoadMate iPhone App, together with that they have also launched a car kit accessory.

The Magellan RoadMate is similarly priced to the previous sat nav iPhone apps we have seen, it is available for $79.99 from iTunes.

The Magellan RoadMate App for iPhone uses the same award-winning, easy-to-use interface as our dedicated personal navigation devices. Premium features include spoken street names and directions, highway lane guidance, 3D landmarks, in-app music control, pedestrian mode and more. Best of all, the Magellan App is a one-time purchase with no subscription or monthly fees.

As well as the launch of the App, Magellan will be selling a car kit for the iPhone, although they havent released any details on pricing or availability as yet.

NEC Develops Battery Free TV Remote Control

NEC Electronics and Japanese company Soundpower have developed a TV remote control that works without the need for batteries.

When a user presses a button on the remote, to change the channel or turn the volume up or down a small amount of electricity is generated through vibrations, the energy is then used to power the remote and complete the desired function.

According to NEC, the electricity that is generated by the vibrations is enough to turn the TV on and off, as well as change the channel of increase or decrease the volume.

The Battery Free TV Remote Control is just in the early prototype stages at the moment, but both companies intend to start marketing the technology to TV makers next year, so who knows we could see our new TVs in the next few years arriving with battery free remote controls.

We have seen a couple of new digital cameras from Casio this week, like the Casio Exilim EX-FH25, now Casio has launched a new compact digital camera which is designed to take a beating, the Casio Exilim EX-G1.

The Casio Exilim EX-G1 is the first compact camera in Casio’s new G-series range, and it is designed to be able to withstand bumps and knocks, as well as water, dust and cold temperatures.

The casing as made from two layers, inside there is a buckle-locked fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate body, on the outside the Casio Exilim EX-G1 is encased in stainless steel.

The Casio Exilim EX-G1 features a 12.1 megapixel 1/2.3 inch CCD sensor, with 3 x optical zoom which offers a range equivalent to 38mm to 114mm, it also features a 2.5 inch LCD display, and is capable of recording video at an 848 x 480 resolution.

The Casio Exilim EX-G1 will go on sale in December for $299.99 and it will be available in two colors, black and red.

Microsoft are obviously looking to increase subscribers to their Xbox Live Gold service, as they are giving it away free to Xbox Live Silver members, this weekend in the US.

To celebrate the launch of a host of new services this week, which include Twitter and Facebook, as well as their Zune service for the Xbox in the UK.

During the free LIVE Weekends, all Xbox LIVE Silver members can enjoy: online multiplayer, Facebook, Twitter, Last.FM, Netflix, Sky Player, Halo Waypoint and 1 v 100*

From the 20th of November until the 23rd of November, Xbox users in the United States will be able to try out all the services available on Xbox Live Gold for free.

And European gamers will have the same service the following weekend, from the 25th of November until the 309th of November.

This is great news for Xbox 360 owners who want to try the service out before they buy to see if it is worth the monthly fee.

Dell Adamo XPS Now Available

The Dell Adamo, which was officially announced by Dell earlier this month has finally gone one sale, and it is now available from Dell, with prices starting at $1,799.

The Dell Adamo XPS is an ultra thin laptop, measuring just 9.9mm thick, making it considerably thinner than the 16.4mm of the previous Adamo, and it weighs just 1.44kg and measured 340 x 273.9mm.

The Dell Adamo XPS features a 13.4 inch HD display with a resolution of 1,366 x 728, battery life comes in at just 2.5 hours on the standard battery, and 5 hours on the extended battery, it also has two USB 2.0 ports, a headphone jack and a mini display port.

Google Chrome OS To Be Previewed Tomorrow

We mentioned last week that Google [GOOG] were planning to launch their Google Chrome OS within a week, it turns out that Google are holding a special event at their headquarters in Mountain View, CA tomorrow.

Google will be providing more information on their Chrome OS, including technical information, and some demos of the operating system.

According to Tech Crunch, Google intends to launch its Chrome OS next year, so it just looks like we will get a preview of what Chrome OS can do tomorrow as well as some details on the tech behind it.

It will be interesting to see what it is like, and how well it performs compared to other operating systems, and I suspect it will be as popular as Google’s Chrome browser when it is finally launched.

The Giada Slim N10 ION Nettop features an Intel Atom N330 dual cores processor, NVIDIA ION graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM and a 2.5 inch SATA II hard drive.

Other specifications include 5 x USB 2.0 ports, and E-SATA port, 100/100M LAN, an SD/SDHC card reader, DVI-I and HDMI, plus Stereo Audio In/Out and S/PDIF.

Google Updates Google Earth iPhone App

Google [GOOG] has updated it Google Earth iPhone app, the updates comes just over a year after the original Google Earth iPhone App was released.

Google Earth 2.0 is compatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch, and the new version has a range of new features, which include the ability to view maps that you create on your PC on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Other Features include an updated icon selection, which now makes it easier to use, and when you touch an icon on the app it will glow, and if you touch more than one icon at once it will take you to a list of icons so you can select the correct one.

The new Google Earth iPhone App now supports more than 31 different languages as opposed to 18 on the original version.

Google Earth 2.0 is now available for the iPhone and iPod Touch as a free download from iTunes.

Asus has added a new model to their ultra portable notebook range, the Asus UL30Vt Notebook.

The Asus UL30Vt Notebook is an updated version of the UL30, and it features a a choice of processors which include an Intel Celeron 1.2GHz processor, or and Intel Core 2 Duo 1.4GHz processor.

Memory comes in the form of 2GB of DDR3 RAM as standard with the option to upgrade to 4GB, and it features a 13.3 inch LCD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768.

Graphics is provided by an Intel GMA X4500MHD graphics chip or and NVIDIA GeForce G210M 512MB graphics card, and storage comes in a choice of either 250GB, 320GB or 500GB.

The Asus UL30Vt Notebook also features a 0.3 megapixel web camera, a 4 in one card reader, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and the choice of a 4 cell or 8 cell battery.

The Asus UL30Vt Notebook comes with Windows 7, there is no word on the exact pricing or release date as yet.

Sony PS3 Firmware Update 3.10 Adds Facebook

Sony has announced their latest update to their PS3 firmware, version 3.10 which will bring a range of new features to the PlayStation 3, one of which is Facebook.

The Facebook feature on the PS3 will let you link your PlayStation network account to your Facebook account, and you can even set it up so that your PS3 will automatically update your Facebook news feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store Activity.

This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.

Other features in the update include a revamped photo category on the XMB, plus a modified PSN friends list.

Scientists at Berry Plastics and the US Army Corps of Engineers have developed some bomb proof wallpaper, the wallpaper has been given the name X-Flex and the wallpaper works so well at protecting a build that the armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan are thinking about re-decorating their army bases with it.

The X-Flex wallpaper is made from a Kevlar sheet which is held between to sheets of elastic polymer wrap, check out the video below which shows how effective it is.

Amazing, as you can see in the video, it stops the walls from falling down when they are hit by the wrecking ball, and you can see the damage to the walls without the wallpaper.

Modern Warfare 2 Banned In Russia

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, has been one of the most popular game release to date, selling a massive 4.7 copies in the US and the UK in its first 24 hours, it hasn’t been as popular in Russia where it has been banned because of ‘No Russian’ level which is also known as the airport massacre level.

Russian gaming fans have hit out against the scene where you have to infiltrate a Russian terrorists gang and take part in a massacre in Moscow Airport.

The game developers have removed the level from the PC game via a patch, but every copy of the console game has been recalled by the Russian government, and the game wont be re-released until the scene has been removed and the Russian government have approved the game.

The new console version of the game is expected to be released in Russia within the month.

The Thecus N0204 NAS uses 2.5 inch hard drives, and it measures 128mm by 88mm by 63mm, and it will take both standard 2.5 inch hard drives and SSDs up to a maximum capacity of 1TB.

It can be set up in either RAID 0 or RAID 1, and it can also function as a print server, and it features built in WiFi and LAN connections.

Microsoft Zune Coming To The UK Today

Microsoft [MSFT] is launching its Zune service on the Xbox 360 in the UK today, and the new service will allows Xbox 360 users to stream movies in full HD 1080p direct to their HD TV.

Unfortunately we wont see any of the Zune players on sale in the UK just yet, as Microsoft has confirmed that they wont be launching the Zune HD in the UK this year.

Pick a movie and you can stream it into your living room instantly and in anything up to 1080p High Definition with 5.1 channel surround sound. In other words, with a good broadband connection, there are no pauses, no lengthy downloads and nothing else to stand between you and stunning HD entertainment.

The update will go live on the Xbox 360 some time today, and it will also include integration of social networking features which include Facebook and Twitter, although you will need a Gold Xbox Live subscription to access them.

This follows on from Microsoft’s recent launch of the Sky Player on the Xbox 360, which was so popular that Microsoft had to suspend the launch and roll it out gradually amongst Xbox 360 owners.

Micorosoft is obviously looking to turn the Xbox 360 into the ultimate entertainment console, for games and movies, and with Xbox 360 Project Natal launching next year it certainly is great news for Xbox owners.

Microsoft have confirmed there is a Vulnerability in their Windows 7 which is related to the Microsoft built network file and printer sharing protocol. This Windows 7 Vulnerability allows hackers to crash the Windows 7 system through the use of denial of service attacks.

Microsoft is investigating new public reports of a possible denial of service vulnerability in the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. This vulnerability cannot be used to take control of or install malicious software on a user’s system. However, Microsoft is aware that detailed exploit code has been published for the vulnerability. Microsoft is not currently aware of active attacks that use this exploit code or of customer impact at this time. Microsoft is actively monitoring this situation to keep customers informed and to provide customer guidance as necessary.

You can block this threat until a patch is released by blocking two TCP ports139 and 445 in your firewall.

After going through an upgrade to 6 Core AMD 6100 processors the Jaguar supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory has now moved up the top 5 super computer list and is now officially the worlds fastest computer.

Previously using only Quad core processors with the upgrade to 6 Cores has increased the performance to 2.3 petaflops/s (theoretically). Built on the AMD Opteron six-core its 224,162 cores generating 1.759 petaflops. Toshiba’s Space Chair Project

Toshiba has created a cool advert for their new 2010 REGZA SV LCD TV range by sending a chair to the edge of space and filming it.

The chair was lifted to 98,268 feet, which took 83 minutes to get there, the chair was fitted with a helium balloon and a Toshiba IK-HR1S compact camera to film the action, check out the video below.

The chair used in the commercial was made from biodegradable balsa wood, and it took just 24 minutes to fall back to earth once the ballon popped.

We have no idea why Toshiba decided to send a living room chair to the edge of space, and how this ties in with their new TVs, very cool none the less.
