Owners of Sony’s Tablet S who have been patiently waiting for a developer with the skills to root their new Sony tablet and open a door of new possibilities. Will be pleased to know that security researcher Dan Rosenberg has found a way to root the Sony Tablet S using the USB debugging system.

Rosenberg has unveiled a method of rooting the Sony Tablet S tablet by enabling USB debugging plug it into a Windows computer, and running a Windows utility created by Rosenberg.

MIUI Android 4.0 ICS Now Works With Amazon’s Kindle Fire Tablet (video)

Owners of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet the have considered installing Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system on to it. Might be interested to learn that MIUI 4 the custom ROM based on Android 4.0 is now available for the Amazon Kindle Fire.

An alpha version of the MIUI was posted two days ago on the MIUI forums, which promised most of the functionality of the standard operating system together with MIUI’s attractive custom theme and interface tweaks. The video created by Liliputing below, shows what seems to be a fairly operational Kindle Fire, check it out for yourself after the jump.

Valve Launches Portal 2 Space Core Skyrim Mod (video)

Valve hasn’t wasted any time trying out the new Skyrim Creative Kit launched by Bethesda earlier this week, and has created its very own Portal 2 Space Core Skyrim mod. CyanogenMod Team Detail Progress With CyanogenMod 9

Back in November of last year the CyanogenMod team announced that they were working on CyanogenMod 9, which is based on the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The CyanogenMod team have now posted an update on the progress of CyanogenMod 9, and have said that support for other devices on top of the existing devices is coming soon.

TouchPad Android Kernel Source Code Released By HP

When HP originally launched their TouchPad tablet device it was never meant to be shipped running Android, but HP’s own HP webOS 3.0 operating system. Unfortunately though a number of TouchPad tablets were originally sold running a version of Android, which was thought to have been installed on the tablets for testing purposes. Then when HP went into firesale mode with their TouchPad tablets, selling them off for as little $99. Many modders picked one or more up to load Android on to it.

Any game modders patiently waiting for the arrival of the new Skyrim Creation Kit promised by Bethesda, will be pleased to learn that their wait is nearly over, and the Skyrim Creation Kit will be arriving on PC tomorrow. Not only that, but Bethesda revealed that you can also expect a nice surprise to arrive with its launch.

The announcement of the immanent arrival of the highly anticipated Skyrim Creation Kit, was conveyed to gamers via a Tweet from Bethesda VP of Marketing Pete Hines. Raspbmc Transforms A $35 Raspberry Pi Into A XBMC Media Center (video)

A new Raspbmc operating system has been announced this week which has been designed to transform a $35/£25 Raspberry Pi mini computer into a XBMC media centre. XBMC had already been tested on the Raspberry Pi but the release of the new Raspbmc operating system makes installing a breeze.

If you haven’t already heard about the new $35/£25 Raspberry Pi computer, its a tiny palm sized PC thats equipped with a ARM-based processor originally designed for educational institutions, but has captured the hearts of hobbyists and geeks worldwide. Barnes & Noble hoped to stop modders being able to side load applications on to their by releasing a new software update to their Nook tablet that was created to make the process hard to carry out. Awesome Battlefield 3 Chaingun And Drinks Fridge Case Mod (video)

Any Battlefield 3 fans looking to mod their own gaming PCs might be interested to view one that has been created by, case modding master Brian Carter. The mod was designed by Carter and created to take part in the competition run by Raptr.

Carter had the opportunity to choose between either creating a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3 case. The finished Battlefield 3 case design is now finished and equipped with its own drinks fridge and has a custom airbrushed Battlefield image on one side, and a massive crosshair intake fan on the other.

Holographic Games Engine Created Using Kinect And Windows Phone (video)

A new hack using Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller together with a Windows Phone, has been published on YouTube by user programming4fun. Which demonstrates whats possible when you combine the two to create a Holographic Games Engine. In the video after the jump you can see as the 3D engine adjusts the image accordingly adapting to the users position, to give the illusion of a real 3D object.

Will be pleased to know that developer Aditya Ravi Shankar, has now created the game as a HTML 5 version which can be enjoyed directly from your browser. The new browser based version is still a work in progress at the moment explains Shankar, but it still provides you with all the classic gameplay of the original.

The new hack has been shown on a number of YouTube videos that have been posted. Demonstrating how the hack can be used to play titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Mortal Kombat, Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham Asylum, and look very genuine. The Worlds Largest Video Game Controller (Video)

A new Guinness World Record has been set for the worlds largest game controller, and the record was taken by this giant NES controller which was made by Ben Allen, Stephen Van’t Hof and Michael Verhulst.

So just how big is the worlds largest game controller? It measures 12 feet wide by 5 feet deep and 1ft 8 inches tall and it weighs in at a massive 265 pounds, it is fully functional and can been seen in action in the video below.

If you were impressed with the Skyrim calculator mod we featured yesterday here on Geeky Gadgets. You might also enjoy this new calculator modification that allows you to play the iD Doom game in glorious colour.

Unfortunately the Doom modification is still currently under development and at the moment doesn’t have any sound support available for the game. Check out the video of the Texas Instruments TI-nspire CX calculator equipped with OS 3.1 and Ndless 3 running the Doom game.

Skyrim Gaming Mod Created For TI-84 Calculators (video)

If you are addicted to the new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim game created by developer Bethesda, and just can’t get enough of the questing even when you’re at work or college. You might be pleased to know that an unofficial version has now been created for Texas instruments TI-84 calculators.

The new Skyrim modification has been completely built on a calculator by YouTube userno9sniper. As you would expect the game still includes questing and battles, but has scaled down graphics to accommodate the smaller processor. If you have any NES controllers lying around and enjoy a little gaming, you might be interested in this new hack that has been created by Paul Rickards. Who has taken a standard NES controller and modified it to work on the iCade games on the iPad.

Rickards admits the hack happened as a accident, while playing around with iMAME on his iPad together with his homebrew Commodore 64 keyboard. Which is connected to his iPad via a modded USB connection, he accidentally struck a key. Which then prompted iMAME to say “enabling iCade mode”.=

Amazon’s Silk browser is exclusive to their Kindle Fire Android tablet, but now it would appear that some of the guys from the XDA developers have managed to port the Kindle Fire’s Silk browser to other Android devices.

To use the Silk browser port on yo0ur Android device you will need to root your smartphone or tablet and also run CyanogenMod 7, and it appears to have worked with a number of devices so far.

You will be pleased to know that Gregory Sarrica, is currently developing a toggle button for the next-gen internet connectivity, to hopefully be included in a future build of CyanogenMod 9.

Gregory has contacted the Engadget Mobile website to reveal the possible inclusion of the handy 4G LTE toggle switch. Which is at the moment being reviewed before being formally accepted into the new CyanogenMod 9 build. Watch a video of the LTE toggle switch in action after the jump.

PS Vita Plays Genesis Games Using Double Emulator Technique (video)

Sony’s new PS Vita gaming console which has been recently launched and only been available for under a month. Has now been tweaked to allow user to be able to play Sega Genesis games.

The Sega games are played using a double emulator technique using the homebrew Genesis emulator originally built for the PSP, running inside the Vita’s own PSP emulation software. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

Jeffrey Stephenson is well know for creating custom computers, and we have featured a number of his creations here at Geeky Gadgets, his latest one is called the Aerodyne.

The Aerodyne is made from a combination of mahogany and aluminum and it is based on a fanless mini-ITX case design, inside the case there is an Intel Core I3-2105 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, and it is running Windows 8.

Apple TV Hacked To Run Fullscreen iOS iPad Apps At 720p (video)

The developers behind the Apple TV MobileX project have released a new video of their work this week, which shows iOS applications running in full 720p via a modified Apple TV.

In the video after the break you can see Apple TV MobileX being used to run applications such as Facebook, Maps, Safari and YouTube. However most of the applications available in the Apple iTunes App Store should also run without a problem say the MobileX project development team. The video below is not using AirPlay, but running the iOS applications directly from the Apple TV scaling them to 720p.

RFID Tagging Used To Create Music (video)

RFID Tags have many uses, and are normally used to transfer data from an electronic RFID tag, to a reader for the purpose of identifying and tracking objects. However innovative modders have found a more rewarding use, using RFID for the creation of music using their RFID Beat Box.

The RFID Beat Box instrument created by Danne Woo, allows users to create and play music by placing RFID tags into wooden bowls. Each tag has been designed to look like a vinyl record and are colour coded, with each one triggering a unique sound. See how they are used to create music after the jump.

The last time we featured a mod created by Love Hultén, it was the cool Sputnik 0667 PC, and now we have another awesome creation by Love Hultén, this time it is a custom retro wooden video game console called the R-Kaid-6.

The R-Kaid-6 is inspired by the classic Atari 2600 and other retro gaming consoles, and it has been made from a combination of wood, a 10 year old computer, two arcade controllers and more.

Transformers and gaming fans will love this new Xbox 360 case mod, inspired by Bumblebee from the Transformers movies, this latest Xbox mod was created by Mark Bongo from Major League Mods.

Mark decided to install an Xbox 360 Slim inside a remote control Camaro, and in the video below you will see that the DVD tray comes out of the front of the car, and the rear window is an 8 inch LCD display.

Amazon’s Kindle device was rooted earlier this month and only a few weeks later has received the CyanogenMod 7 treatment. If you wear glasses or would simply like to keep your monitor contents private. A new modification has been demonstrated by Instructables modder Dimovi, that shows you how to remove the polarising film on your monitor.

If you have a Samsung Series 7 Slate tablet gathering dust in your home or office, or you would simply prefer to try a slightly different OS on it rather than the intended Windows 7. You might be interested to know that a developer has now been able to install and run OS X Lion on his.

The installation of the OS X Lion operating system on the Samsung Series 7 Slate was completed using a Lion UniBeast USB KEY Install method and does still have a few things which still need to be ironed out. We recently head that Apple’s voice activated virtual assistant, Siri, had been cracked and was capable of running on virtually any device, which include Google’s Android devices.

Now developer and iPhone hacker @plamoni has been working to get Siri to work with other connected devices, and has created a proxy server which allows him to set up Siri with some new functions, one of which you can see working in the video below.

Some of our readers will remember the Lego Street View car that we featured on the site back it June, it was built by Mark Crosbie,and now Mark has built another version, the Lego Street View Car 2.

The new Lego Street View car now uses an iPhone with iOS 5, and Mark says he chose the iPhone for the cars camera as the photos can be automatically uploaded to PhotoStream.

Team Xron Launches Custom Android ROM For HP Touchpad (video)

Team Xron has unveiled their own new remix of the CyanogenMod software providing the Android OS with a different look and feel on HP’s TouchPad device. The new custom Android ROM has refreshed the icons and applications contained within the CyanogenMod to reflect the Android Honeycomb ones a little more closely, together with new themes and wallpapers.

You can install Team Xron’s ROM the same way you would install CyanogenMod, by just downloading the new Team Xron version of Android and use it in place of the CyanogenMod files. Watch a video after the jump to see it in action.

Project Xperience, Awesome Plexiglass PC Case Mod

We have featured a number of different PC case mods here t Geeky Gadgets over the years, but I think the latest case mod is one of the coolest we have seen so far, the Project Xperience which was created by Florian from Hering Home Projects.

The case was built from plexiglass and it features an aluminum core, and Florian planned out his design using a CAD program, and it is designed to be used as a HTPC in your living room, and according to Florian it is almost completely noiseless as it uses passive cooling.

The Tweephone was created by two Ukranian technology companies UP digital Bureau and Unteleported tech agency, who have said that the Tweephone is the first analog Twitter client, and it was made using an old telephone and Arduino.

The Tweephone lets you type your tweets using the rotary dial on the phone, and obviously it takes a little longer to write our your tweet than using your keyboard, have a look at the video of it in action below.

Google Nexus S Gets Android Ice Cream Sandwich Port

We heard recently that the Google Nexus S had the latest version of Google’s mobile OS ported to it, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and now the guys over at the XDA Developers have released the port for the Google Nexus S.

According to the XDA developers there are still a few bugs which they are working on which include Bluetooth, NFC and Panorama mode on the camera.

We have already seen CyanogenMod 7 running on the Droid Bionic, and now we have another video which shows the Droid Bionic dual booting into CyanogenMod 7, the hack was originally done of the Droid 3 and then the same method was used on the Droid Bionic.

The video below shows the Droid Bionic dual booting Android 2.3 Gingerbread with CyanogenMod 7, and it uses an original hack for the Droid 3 which was put together by developer hashcode.

The BioShock case was created by Hungarian BioShock fan and modder Gregory Mórocz and has taken a number of years to complete, which he has now named “Welcome to Rapture”.

Mórocz was inspired by the art-deco aesthetics and was so excited when the original BioShock game was released he decided to create a case worthy of the BioShock games content.

If you haven’t already heard about Thunderpants headphones, they are a pair of custom built headphones created using a pair of Fostex T50RPs headphones as a base. The Thunderpants headphones currently has the audio community in a frenzy to get a hold of a pair as their sound quality after the modification is awesome and “measure with some of the finest in the world.” according to Jude over at the Head-Fi website.

You can make the modification yourself using a kit but audio community member named Smeggy who originally created the headphones has been transforming the $75 Fostex T50RPs into $550 Thunderpants headphones for sometime. Steampunk Nerf Gun Created From Antique Wooden Chair

An innovative modder Faustus70 has used an old antique wooden chair to create a working Steampunk Nerf gun which can hold up to 10 Nerf whister darts. Its powered by 3 x AA batteries and is even fitted with a scope that provides a 3 x magnification making sure you never miss your target.

It was created by modifying a NERF N-Strike Barricade and adapting wood salvaged from an antique wooden chair, all held together with hand-cut aluminium strips and riveted in place.

Mario Lukas has created a very unique type of printer that uses toilet rolls for its printing paper rather than traditional A4 sheets. Lukas created the unique printer as an entry into a hardware hacking contest “Mach flott den Schrott” run by German technology magazine c’t.

Lukas build his Toilet Paper Printer using old printer parts and has even equipped it with an Ethernet port to control exactly what you would like to print. Its primarily been designed to print Tweets and Facebook posts but can also be used to print RSS feeds as well. Replacement toilet rolls can be added by opening the left side of the printer.
