Geeky Gaming – The 3rd Space FPS Vest

Fancy adding some excitement to your gaming, but don’t fancy getting electrocuted by the Mindwire V5, then check out the 3rd Space FPS Vest.

Geeky Gaming - The 3rd Space FPS Vest

So how does it work? Well, eight, count ‘em, eight, pneumatic cells are embedded in various spots around the vest. As the vest communicates with compatible games (via the included software), a special compressor fires air into the cells using appropriate levels of force to accurately simulate the on-screen action. So a direct hit from a rifle will elicit a sharp thud whilst a girly punch will summon an appropriately feeble ‘wumph’. Get blasted by some alien shotgun and your entire upper body will receive an almighty whack from all eight cells. Ouch! The jacket won’t bruise you but you’ll certainly know you’ve been tagged. And if you get shot from behind or slapped on the back, the vest responds accordingly. Yow!

Yes, you will look pretty daft sitting in front of your computer wearing a flak jacket but who cares about that when you’re reeling from three direct hits to the chest and a rata-tat-tat of machine gun fire from behind. It’s just like the real thing minus all that pain and dying business.

The 3rd Space FPS Vest comes bundled with its own game disc, 3rd Space Incursion, plus a copy of Activision’s Call of Duty 2, but it’s also compatible with stacks of other games including Quake 4 and Medal of Honour Airborne.

The 3rd Space FPS Vest comes in either black or camouflage and is available to buy online for $300 from Firebox.

Geeky Gaming – The Oscilloscope Tetris – Scopetris

Some clever guy called Lars Pontoppidan has come up with a version of Tetris on an Oscilloscope.

Geeky Gaming - The Oscilloscope Tetris - Scopetris

The game is just Tetris marathon with a gradually increasing speed, and the score is simply the number of lines removed. The speed, however, is not related to number of lines removed, but to the number of line removing rounds – each time dropping a brick causes lines to be removed. So, to get a high score, one must zap a great number of lines each time, and of course be able to control a high speed.

Cool Mods – The Wii Nes Light Gun Mod

If you own a Wii and miss your NES light gun, then this mod might be for you.

Cool Mods - The Wii Nes Light Gun Mod

The guys over at AcidMods have hacked together a Wiimote and an NES Light gun to make this cool controller for your Wii.

Cool Mods - The Wii Nes Light Gun Mod

The Nintendo Gun provided a better point and shoot mechanism than the add on modules that are available for the Wiimote. This hack allows you to adapt one of the original Nintendo Guns to work with the Wiimote. Since the Wiimote uses an IR camera to look at the sensor bar that sensor needs to be removed and installed in the tip of the gun.
