The Amazon Kindle for Macs will work with Mac OS X 1.5 and above and it lets you read your Amazon books on your Mac and also sync them with other devices like the iPhone.

Amazon has also announced that it will be releasing a version of their Amazon Kindle application for the Apple iPad, although the existing iPhone App would work on the iPad an optimized one would be much better.

It will be interesting to see how Apple deals with the Amazon iPad applications, which would compete directly with Apple’s iBook’s on the iPad. You can download the Amazon Kindle for Mac application for free from Amazon.

Apple [AAPL] has released the iPad which is based on their iPhone OS, will we see Microsoft [MSFT] release a tablet based on their new Windows Phone 7 OS?

Designer Umang Dokey has come up with an interesting concept for a Windows Phone 7 based tablet, as you can see from the video it features an 8 inch screen and a couple of scrolling joysticks that are designed for gaming and navigation.

If Microsoft do release a tablet based on their Windows Phone 7 OS, lets hope it looks as good as this one, it certainly does look like an interesting concept.

I would like to apologize to our readers for the disruption to the site yesterday. It seems the site was hacked, although we managed to stop the hackers half way through their attack and they didn’t actually manage to upload any malicious code to the site that would harm anyones computer.

What they did manage to do was change Geeky Gadgets title in Google, if you type ‘Geeky Gadgets’ into Google you will see that our site title has been changed to something different.

Luckily our team managed to spot the hacking attempt before it was to late, and no real damage was done to the site (except for the new title in Google). We have taken extra security measures to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Once again we are sorry for any inconvenience caused to our readers.

Update : It looks like things are now back to normal in Google. If anyone spots anything suspicious please let us know.

Even the major players can make mistakes. With Apples misfortune with the iPhone name who then had to purchase the name from Cisco through a private deal and Microsoft’s Redmond “Internet Explorer” payout of $5 million. You would think Google may have learnt from these lessons.

Last December Google tried to register the name of its new phone “Nexus One” but the registration failed and the existing owner of the word “nexus”- one Integra Telecom – was awarded possession.

Google is likely to appeal on the basis that has never been involved with the oil industry. But wouldn’t it have been easier to do this before the launch of its phone?

Well, it may not stop there either for Google, it still hasn’t secured the Android name either. Supposedly treading on the toes of aspirational robots, Google is still involved in a claim and counterclaim situation from registrant Erich Specht. Mr. Specht’s claim continues to be the subject of a civil action.

Some of our readers will remember the Spring Design Alex eReader that was announced back in October of 2009. Good news if you have been waiting to get your hands on one, as the Alex eReader has now gone on sale in the US.

The Spring Design Alex is available to order for $399 from Spring Design, and you will be able to pre-order one later today and it will ship in the middle of April.

The Alex eReader is a dual screen device, it features a 6 inch E-Ink EPD display and a 3.5 inch color LCD display, and it runs on Google’s Android OS.

It measures 4.7 inches by 8.9 inches and is about half an inch thick, with a weight of about 11 ounces. The Alex eReader connects to Google’s bookstore and users have access to over one million books.

It also features support for some Google Android applications, and it features a built in web browser and a WiFi connection. It certainly does look like one of the more interesting e-readers that we have seen.

If you’re looking for a tiny wireless web camera. Then Thanko’s new wifi web camera is worth a look. Capable of running for five hours on one charge a small camera can capture up to 15 frames per second. Which it then sends back to the receiver plugged in to the USB port on your PC which can be up to 10 meters away.

To conserve battery power you can also attach the camera to PC via cable if required. Unfortunately it only available in Japan at the moment can be purchased for for 7,980 yen or approx. $88.62 from Thanko directly.

Check out this unique Cabestan Nostromo watch which is inspired by the ship from the Alien movie and used the movement that made the Cabestan Winch Tourbillon Vertical famous

The Cabestan Nostromo is constructed mainly from titanium and the case is coated with a superluminova phosphorescent paint which reveals a subtle yellow green light that flows around the wheels bridges, drums and drive shafts when in lowlight.

The open design of the watch allows for the viewing of the vertical mechanics from both the front and the back, including the drive shaft which is used to transmit the required energy to power the movements.

However this watch and it’s amazing and unique design doesn’t come cheap. If you’re interested it’s available to purchase for 150,000 Swiss Francs around $141,400.

The Smart Robot G182 vacuum cleaner available from Chinavasion is equipped with an IP WiFi enabled camera which allows you login via the Internet and control it just like an RC toy allowing to to vacuum remotely if desired. I have to say thats not high on my list list but hey.

I’m also not 100% sure that the combination of a web cam and vacuum cleaning is the best idea. As the Smart Robot G182 vacuum doesn’t actually use the web cam for positional or location control while vacuuming and the camera mounting just makes it more awkward for the vacuum to manoeuvre into tight spaces.

But if you feel you can’t live without one is available to purchase from Chinavasion for £327 or approximately $499

If you are one of those people that has a large collection of US gadgets that you like to have connected to your PC all at once, then you may want to check out the USB Super 16 Port Hub.

If four USB ports aren’t enough for you then maybe this may be the solution, as this USB 2.0 hub features a total of sixteen USB 2.0 ports.

The USB Super 16 Port Hub can be connected to two PCs at once to share the same USB gadgets (although not at the same time), it comes with a built in 22.5W power supply and you don’t need an extra AC adapter to power it.

If you want one, the USB Super 16 Port Hub is available for $159.99 from Think Geek.

Here is another cool watch concept from the guys over at Tokyoflash, the E-Clock. The E-Clock is designed to show the time in two different ways, featuring a digital display and a line display.

The watch band is made from a thin sheet of stainless steel that is designed to wrap around your wrist like a bracelet, and the watch face is made from an e-paper display.

It also features a bluetooth connection, and the watch will vibrate and give you call, message and mail notifications from your mobile phone.

It certainly looks like an interesting concept, I wonder if we will see this model go into production.

The RC Live Steam Tank works with a standard remote control that you will see on many of the RC toys available, but instead of being powered by batteries the tank is powered by steam.

The tank will run for about 15 minutes on one tank or water, head on over to Crabfu for more details on how this run radio controlled steam powered tank was built.

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you have had an accident in your car, and cant get you seatbelt off, then a company called CRKT may have the solution with this handy tool called the ExiTool.

The ExiTool is a small device that clips onto your seat belt, and it features a built in seat belt cutter, a window breaker and an LED flashlight.

“First, there is the worry about being unable to release a seat belt because it is jammed or if the release is inaccessible. Second, there are the difficulties of escaping a vehicle that has been submerged in water. Water pressure may make it difficult or impossible to open doors or lower windows until water has seeped in and the internal pressure is equalized.”

It certainly seems like a clever idea, maybe car manufacturers should think about building something like this into car seatbelts, it could end up coming in handy if you are ever in an accident.

The ExiTool will be available shortly from CRKT for $27.

If your a slacker at work you might like to read this. The Japanese phone giant KDDI has created a mobile phone that is capable of tracking your movements and what work you are doing during your daily business routine.

For example, the KDDI mobile phone strapped to waist of a cleaner can note the differences between actions performed such as scrubbing, sweeping, walking an even emptying a rubbish, then beam these back to their superior for analysis.

According to KDDI the aim of the tracking system is to enable employees to work more efficiently and managers to easily evaluate their employees’ performance while away from the office. KDDI already has a Japanese employment agency interested in deploying the new technology. It will be interesting to see how any privacy issues related to this mobile phone will be handled by employers.

The Intendix Brain-Computer Interface works on a thought to computer system. The user wears the EEG cap and can control the attached PC using their brain waves. The EEG head gear allows you to write texts, let the computer speak the written text, print out or copy the text into an e-mail or to send commands to external devices via brain control.

The system originally designed to assist patients with locked-in syndrome or other disabilities and can be used to trigger alarms if needed.

The system is very easy to learn say the manufactures and within only 10-15 mins you can be controlling your PC. Unforutunately theres no launch date as yet but the system will be available to buy for around $12,250 shortly.
