Nik Conomos has created a new universal smartphone in-car holder which he’s designed to be the best for any smartphone in any car. The Ultima smartphone holder is constructed from aluminium and has an custom intuitive holding design.

Many designers seem to stay away from conceptual BlackBerry devices, but at the moment BlackBerry needs all the help it can get to reinvent its brand and line of smartphones. iPhone Elevation Dock, Breaks All Kickstarter Records

You might remember back in the middle of December late last year a new design that was starting its journey on the popular Kickstarter website, called the iPhone Elevation Dock.

Even though the iPhone Elevation Dock time on Kickstarter is now coming to a close, the fantastic iPhone Elevation Dock has nearly raised $1 million in Kickstarter funding since its first appearance on the site. Breaking the all time Kickstarter funding record of $942,000.

Google Augmented Reality Glasses Arriving Soon?

The 9to5 Google website has revealed this week that Google’s new augmented reality glasses could be arriving very soon. Providing users that wear the new “Google Goggles” as they have been dubbed. Information as they walk along provided by Google location services and Google’s stored information. A source has now revealed to the 9to5Google website that the new Google glasses look similar to Oakleys Thumps glasses and are equipped with a front a facing camera.

Might be interested in a new design which is just starting its journey from concept to production. The SOOT Acoustic Kickstand has been designed specifically for Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet and provides the tablet with a sound stand equipped with an acoustic chamber.

The SOOT Acoustic Kickstand comes supplied with a removable credit card-sized ‘foot’ that tucks into the back of the sound chamber, providing a simple stand for viewing media or listening to audio, as well as holding your Kindle Fire tablet when not in use.

WiGig High Speed Short Range SD Cards Demonstrated, Transferring DVD’s In Just 60 Seconds

Panasonic has this week been demonstrating its new WiGig SD memory cards that have been designed to provide a simple solution for short-range high speed data transfers. The new WiGig gigabit wireless communications technology has been under development for some time and was first featured back in June 2011 here on Geeky Gadgets.

WiGig is embedded on an SD memory card, and Panasonic has revealed how it can be used to transmit videos, photos and other local data from a wireless controller such as a tablet, to the displays mounted in the passenger seats of a car. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

Self Guided Direction Changing Smart Bullets Unveiled By US Military

If you have seen the film Wanted starring Angelina Jolie you might remember the scene in which a bullet is able to be curved to a target by changing its course. Science fiction? Not any more, the US Military has now unveiled a new type of bullet that can do just that and can guide itself to a target, automatically changing its path as its flies.

Sandia National Laboratories has long been at work with the United States military developing the ultimate “smart bullet.” It announced today that a successful prototype of the bullet was created and tested at distances of over a mile (about 2,000 meters).

iWatch is an on going concept that ADR Studios first visualised back in 2010. Now ADR have updated their design to look a little slimmer and added a few more features, but unfortunately its still only a concept at the moment.

The iWatch concept would be equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and be fitted with 32GB of internal memory. As well as a FaceTime camera allowing you to chat with friends directly from your wrist.

Pandora Linux Based Open Source Gaming Console Finally Available To Pre-order (video)

Four years ago a project was started to create Pandora, an open source Linux based handheld gaming console, powered by an ARM processor. Now after a long development process and funding to the tune of around half a million Euros from dedicated fans of the Pandora console, its now available to pre-order.

The specifications of the Pandora console haven’t really changed much since the project started, so a handheld gaming device that was at the top of the curve regards specifications four years ago, is now looking a little more down to earth. The Pandora does still pack in some great features though that are not available on other handheld gaming consoles.

A new hack using Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller together with a Windows Phone, has been published on YouTube by user programming4fun. Which demonstrates whats possible when you combine the two to create a Holographic Games Engine. In the video after the jump you can see as the 3D engine adjusts the image accordingly adapting to the users position, to give the illusion of a real 3D object.

iDesk Concept, Provides A Glimpse Of A Future Workspace

The iDesk concept which has been designed and rendered by Adam Benton and takes a look at what desks may hold for the future. The iDesk concept is an entirely adaptable workspace that doesn’t just contain your computer and documents. But enhances their functionality by allowing them all to interact with each other, in a similar vein to Microsoft’s Surface technology.

By placing objects on to the iDesk surface, devices, images and data can easily be transferred from your smartphone, tablet or camera directly to your desktop computer and vice versa. The desktop would become an additional working space to your monitor screen, and enable you to arrange and view documents as if they were paper placed on a traditional work surface.

Optical Turntables (video)

The Product design studio based in Berlin has created a very unique sound system using optical sensors rather than the tradition needle. The optical turntables were created for the premiere of Volkswagen’s new Beetle at the 2011 IAA motor show.

Rather than using vinyl disks like a traditional record player the new optical turntables uses discs with concentric geometric patterns printed on them and then placed below a glass surface to produce music. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

Are you looking for a more original speaker system? If you are and have a little spare time this weekend you, might like to create your very own Toolbox BoomBox, which has been designed and built by Floyd Davis IV.

Floyd explained that he has equipped his Toolbox Boombox with a Pyle Pro stereo amplifier, together with speakers bought second hand from a thrift shop. The Facebook bed otherwise known as the Fbed, has been designed by Tomislav Zvonarić, and allows those addicted to staying up to date with their Facebook updates a place to grab a little shut eye in between typing.

As you can see from the images below the Facebook Bed has been designed using the Facebook “f” logo turned on its side. At one end there is a space for your computers connected directly to your Facebook pages and a sleeping area at the other. Although you will need to stay cross-legged or a little cramped when using the computer, as leg space is at a premium.

WristQue Wristband Has Been Designed To Control Your Smart Surroundings

MIT researchers Have been working on a new concept wristband called the WristQue, which has been created to allow you to interact with smart building. While wearing the new wristband if you enter a smart building it will be able to track your location from room to room, and if you feel a little cold you will be able to automatically change the rooms thermometer by pressing buttons on the WristQue.

MIT researchers Joe Paradiso and Brian Mayton began the project in October. The project is still in the very early stages of development, and it is hoped that it can be developed to provide even more interactivity in the future. Including motion gestures which will be able to control TVs and computers.

Car maker Mercedes-Benz has sown off a new gesture controlled HUD (heads up display) at this years CES, the system is called DICE, which standard for Dynamic and Intuitive Control Experience.

The DICE system doesn’t have any buttons to control the system, instead it uses gestures and a range of proximity sensors which detect your movements and perform which task you want, have a look at the video of it in action below.

Trax MkII Concept Watch Uses Tracks To Tell The Time

The idea is to eliminate overlapping technology in our everyday devices and put them into one central device, for all of them to use. Powerpukk Water Powered Smartphone Charger (video)

A new mobile charging system has been unveiled this week at CES called the Powerpukk, which has been developed by Swedish firm myFC who has created the PowerTrekk charging system, SiGNa who has designed the PowerPukk charger. The new type of charging device uses just water and a non toxic chemical called sodium silicide to create hydrogen gas which then powers the fuel cell.

The PowerPukk charger is equipped with hockey puck sized cartridge of sodium silicide on one side and a water tray on the other. Simple add a couple of spoonfuls of water to start the power up process to charge your devices. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

The device which is currently on Kickstarter, consists of a hollow cylinder and a piston. Which is forced down the cylinder to create a ember. At CES this week Sony has unveiled a new Vaio tablet which is equipped with a integrated slide-out keyboard. Transforming it from tablet to Ultrabook and back. Apart from a few teaser devices to look at, no detailed specifications have been made available by Sony for the new tablet/ultrabook. But it has the look of the Samsung Series 7 Sliding Windows tablet, unveiled but which never made the jump to mainstream production.

Hydromechanical HYT T1 Watch Combines Mechanical And Liquid Engineering For The First Time (video)

A new concept watch has been built which is the first ever to combine both mechanical and liquid engineering. The new concept watch has been created by master watch maker Vincent Perriard & Co and is called the HYT H1 and comes with the hefty price tag of $45,000, with a titanium case.

The unique mechanics of the Vincent Perriard & Co’s HYT H1 uses liquid-driven pistons as well as gears to tell the time. The Pistons in the movement move the bellows, which then push green fluorescein liquid around the dial to indicate the time. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

eXcanvas Camera Concept Makes It Easy To Snap Self Portraits

Anyone who enjoys snapping self portraits while out and about with their camera or smartphone, might be interested in this new concept which has been developed by designer Junyoung Jang called the eXcanvas.

The eXcanvas camera can be separated into a tripod and sub camera and features a timer function and scan even be attached to your wrist to help taking self portraits even easier. Check out a gallery of the concept after the break.

Lumus DK-32 Wearable Display Prototype Demonstrated At CES (video)

Lumus has been showcasing their new Lumus DK-32 transparent display glasses at CES this week. Providing us with a glimpse in to the future of wearable displays.

The Lumus DK-32 display glasses use an optical engine to project the light on to the lens which is then reflected on to the eye of the wearer through reflectors which are embedded in the lens. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action and its technology explained in a little more detail.

Mounty Mount iPhone Holder Concept For Bikes, Buggies And Shopping Carts

A new iPhone holder called the Mounty Mount will shortly be appearing on the Kickstarter website, trying to make the jump from concept to production, which has been designed by mechanical engineers Kevin and Eleanor.

The Mounty Mount was originally designed for bicycle handlebars, but the designers soon realised that the mount would be useful on motorcycles, scooters or strollers, and would be easy to fit to any crossbar style location with its tool-free attachment mechanism.

Sony Crystal LED, Next Generation HDTV Prototype Revealed

Sony has today revealed a new prototype display that is equipped with Sony’s new Crystal LED technology, rather than using OLED. The new Crystal LED technology uses tiny LED lights to create the screen and the 55 inch prototype on display at CES, using 6 million tiny LEDs to create the 1080p resolution.

On the prototype TV, Sony has mounted ultrafine LEDs behind each of the Red-Green-Blue (RGB) colours, which are equivalent to the number of pixels. With the RGB LED light source being mounted directly on the front of the display, which according to Sony, has a dramatic effect on light-use efficiency.

3M Projected Capacitive Display Prototype Unveiled (video)

Before the doors open to the public at CES this week, 3M has been demonstrating its new 46 inch Touch Systems Projected Capacitive Display, which has been setup as a table top multimedia prototype.

There are plenty of iPad cases on the market at the moment, but a team of designers have created a concept, which adds a unique innovative way to use the iPad case as a stand for viewing your iPad.

The Smarty iPad Case uses a little origami style folding and a couple of magnets to create a rigid stand from a soft protective case, and could be used with any tablet that is able to slide into the sleeve design.

Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, have created a new style of robot that has been inspired by leaping lizards. The teams research indicated that modern-day leaping lizards use their tails to control the orientation of their bodies when leaping through the air, and sparked the new design. The video after the break illustrates how both the lizards and the robot were able to control their body orientation using their tails.

Loopo Memory Concept

Keeping a memory flash drive handy and always with you can sometimes be a little tricky. But a new concept, designed by Emami Design called Loopo, is a great way to make sure you always have a little storage space on you at all times.

The simple Loopo design incorporates a clasp at one end of a flash drive allowing you to attach the storage device to pretty much anything you can think of, such as keys, necklaces or even ring binders.

If you are a fan of the Smart Cover which was released by Apple to compliment the iPad 2 when it was launched. You might be interested in this neat TidyTilt cover for your iPhone. Which tries to provide the same sort of features the Smart Cover case brings to the iPad 2 on your iPhone.

The TidyTilt attaches to your iPhone also using magnets but you need to attach a metal strip around the edge of your iPhone first. Eobot Concept Watch

A new watch called the Eobot is currently taking votes over on the Tokyoflash website, hoping to become reality and make it to production. The concept drawn below resembles a robot in shape and has a robotic red eye similar to the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica, which moves back and forth.

To tell the time on the watch the coloured lights are used to display hours and minutes. The first 4 vertical rows of lights indicate the 4-digit time and date and in each row one of the lights is illuminated in either green or blue.
