DIY Fish Eye Lense

If you fancy taking a couple of fish eye photos with your new DSLR but find it hard to part with the cash to purchase a branded fish eye lens. then this creative DIY method of creating might be a good project for this weekend.

Using a fish-eye door viewer, a couple of pieces of scrap wood and duct tape you too. can create though perfect fish eye photographs.

The DIY fish eye lens above has been fitted to a standard Nikon 18-105mm VR lens.

We have seen a couple of new digital cameras from Casio this week, like the Casio Exilim EX-FH25, now Casio has launched a new compact digital camera which is designed to take a beating, the Casio Exilim EX-G1.

The Casio Exilim EX-G1 is the first compact camera in Casio’s new G-series range, and it is designed to be able to withstand bumps and knocks, as well as water, dust and cold temperatures.

The casing as made from two layers, inside there is a buckle-locked fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate body, on the outside the Casio Exilim EX-G1 is encased in stainless steel.

The Casio Exilim EX-G1 features a 12.1 megapixel 1/2.3 inch CCD sensor, with 3 x optical zoom which offers a range equivalent to 38mm to 114mm, it also features a 2.5 inch LCD display, and is capable of recording video at an 848 x 480 resolution.

The Casio Exilim EX-G1 will go on sale in December for $299.99 and it will be available in two colors, black and red.

As well as launching the new Casio Exilim EX-FC150, Casio has also launched a new superzoom camera, the Casio Exilim EX-FH25.

The Casio Exilim EX-FH25 features a 10 megapixel sensor, a 3 inch LCD screen, 20 x optical zoom and an ISO range of 100-3200.

The Casio Exilim EX-FH25 can shoot at 40 frames per second in burst mode, at a resolution of 3456 x 2,592, and it can also shoot in a 1000/fps burst mode but this drops the resolution down to 224 x168.

The Casio Exilim EX-FH25 will go on sale in Japan later this month for about $558.

Leica has confirmed the launch of a limited edition of its M7 camera, the Leica M7 Hermes Edition.

The Leica M7 Hermes Edition is the second collaboration between Leica and Hermes, there will only be 200 of this limited edition Leica M7 produced, 100 in orange and 100 in green, and each camera will features a special sequential serial number between 001 and 200.

The LEICA M7 Edition ‘Hermès’ camera has a number of distinct features compared to the standard LEICA M7 model. For example, the top plate is engraved with the Leica name in classic script: the red Leica logo has been omitted to preserve the colour harmony of the leather covering,

All control elements of the LEICA M7 Edition ‘Hermès’ have been manufactured exclusively in metal, and the back of the camera is finished in silver chrome. Furthermore, the red colour of the engraved AUTO and flash settings on the shutter speed dial has been replaced by the specific shade of the camera’s leather.

The Leica M7 Hermes Edition will go on sale in the UK in December for £8,550 about $14,300.

Casio has added a new compact digital camera to its range with the launch of the Casio Exilim EX-FC150.

The Casio Exilim EX-FC150 is the updated version of the EX-FC100, and it comes with a 10 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor, and a 37-185mm 5 x optical zoom lens, plus a 2.7 inch LCD display.

The Casio Exilim EX-FC150 can also record video and it comes in a range of colors, which include, silver, black and red.

There are no details as yet on exact release date or any on pricing.

Ricoh GXR Modular Camera System

Ricoh has launched the GXR which they call an ‘interchangeable unit camera system’, so basically it is a modular camera system with a bunch of interchangeable parts.

The Ricoh GXR features interchangeable lenses which slide into the body of the camera, this is designed to keep the body of the camera small, and the interchangeable units change the cameras megapixels.

For example one unity features a 24-72mm lens with a 10 megapixel sensor whilst another unit features a 5mm lens with a 12 megapixel sensor.

It certainly does sound like an interesting idea, and one benefit that the Ricoh GXR has over DSLR cameras is that the lenses are all sealed units, which means there is no chance of getting dust in the lens.

The Ricoh GXR features a 3 inch LCD display, you can also purchase an additional electronic viewfinder unit, and when it goes on sale the camera body will unit will retail for about $700 whilst the lenses will start at about $370.

Following on from the Olympus PEN EP-1, Olympus has added a new Micro Four Thirds camera to its range, the Olympus PEN E-P2.

The Olympus PEN E-P2 adds a few features over the EP-1, which include Olympus’s new VF-2 viewfinder, it comes with a 12.3 megapixel Live MOS sensor, with image stabilization and dust reduction, and an ISO range up to 6400.

The Olympus PEN E-P2 features manual control over aperture and exposure settings, and it can record video in 720p at 30fps, it also features AF tracking, and 8 different art filters.

It will go on sale in December with the choice of two lenses, either an ED 14-42mm f3.5/5.6 Zuiko Digital Zoom lens, or a 17mm f2.8 Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens, both models will retail for $1,100.

Canon has launched their latest high end DSLR camera, the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV.

The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV features an APS-H-sized 16 megapixel sensor, with a 1.3x crop factor, and a normal ISO range of 100 to 12,800, it also has an expanded ISO range up to 102,400.

“Canon works hard to be the imaging leader in all our business endeavors. This goal has fueled our innovation and R&D efforts to engineer the most advanced autofocus system Canon has ever produced. We are proud to announce the camera that will deliver the ultimate in imaging quality to professionals working in all areas of multimedia imaging, whether it’s action photography, photojournalism or HD video and cinematography,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.

It also has a 45 point autofocus system which includes 39 high precision cross type focusing points which are capable of tracking fast moving objects accurately at speeds up to 10 frames per second.

The Canon EOS 1D Mark IV can shoot HD video in 1080p at 24, 25 and 30 frames per second, or 720p at 50 or 60 frames per second.

We have already seen the new Pentax K-x DSLR which comes in a range of funky colors, obviously Pentax don’t think those are colorful enough so they have decided to release the Pentax K-x ‘Robotic Colors’ Limited Edition in Japan.

The Pentax K-x ‘Robotic Colors’ Limited Edition will only be available in Japan, only 100 will be released and the design is inspired by the Kore Ja Nai robo toy.

The Pentax K-x ‘Robotic Colors’ Limited Edition will be available in Japan in their online store for $880 and it will be available to pre-order from November.

It doesn’t look like we will see this multi colored Pentax K-x in the US or Europe.

The Flip Mino HD Second Generation comes with 8GB of storage, as opposed to 4GB on the previous model, it also features a larger 2 inch LCD screen, and HDMI out, although is doesn’t come with a bundled HDMI cable.

The new Mino HD also has a new brushed metal body, with a slightly different design than the previous model.

Nikon has officially launched their latest high end DSLR the Nikon D3s.

The Nikon D3s features a 12.1 megapixel sensor, an improved viewfinder, 51 point autofocus, 14-bit A/D conversion, and 16-bit image processing, plus twin CF slots.

When the Nikon D3 was released, it ushered in a new era of professional digital imaging. Today, the D3S will further reinforce Nikon’s leadership role in the photographic industry as a pioneer in performance-driven technologies that will again break once-rigid picture-taking barriers,” said Edward Fasano, general manager for Marketing, SLR Systems Products at Nikon Inc. “The ruggedly constructed D3S was engineered to address the real-world needs of professional photographers and provides them with a tool that, when combined with their skills, delivers stunning images in a broad range of shooting conditions and assignment requirements.”

The most notable feature of the D3s is the ISO range which goes up to 102,400, and it will shoot HD video in 720p.

Sanyo has launched two new high end Dual Camera, the Sanyp VPC-HD2000A and VPC-FH1A, which are the world’s first camcorders to offer compatibility with iFrame, the next generation video format.

iFrame is designed to allow users to edit, share and import high quality videos, and the format is compatible with both PCs and Macs.

The Pentax K-x DSLR comes with a host of features, including a 12 megapixel CMOS sensor, capable of shooting up to 12,800 ISO in expanded range.

It can also shoot HD video in 720P at 24fps, and it features a 2.7 inch LCD screen, with Live View, and auto focus, plus face detection that can detect up to 16 different faces.

PENTAX Imaging Company redefines the entry-level digital SLR category with the introduction of the K-x digital SLR. This latest PENTAX camera offers high-end features including Live View and HD video.

The best thing about the new Pentax K-x DSLR is the price, $599 for the body only or $650 with an 18-5mm lens, which makes it considerably cheaper similar models from other manufacturers.

We told you about the new cameras from Leica earlier in the week, Leica has just officially announced the Leica M9 and the Leica X1, and the details are pretty much as we reported previously.

The Leica M9 will comes with a full frame 18.2 megapxiel sensor, whilst the X9 will comes with a 12 megapxiel APS-C sensor and a fixed 24mm lens.

The Leica M9 will go on sale for £4,850 about $8,000, and will be available shortly, whilst the X1 will go on sale in January next year, there is no word on pricing as yet.

The size of the bright-line frame corresponds exactly to the sensor size of approx. 23.9 x 35.8 mm at a setting distance of 1 meter. At infinity setting, depending on the focal length, approx. 7.3 % (28 mm) to 18 % (135 mm) more is recorded by the sensor than indicated by the corresponding bright-line frame and slightly less for distances shorter than 1m.

Samsung has added a new compact digital camera to its range with the launch of the Samsung ST45.

The Samsung ST45 is ultra thin, measuring just 0.63 inches at its thickest point, although it is slim it doesn’t skimp on features, with a 2.7 inch QVGA LCD screen, a 12.2 megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom and ISO 3,200 sensitivity.

It also features built in image stabilization, and a smart album facility that will group your pictures by date, content, color or even theme.

The Samsung ST45 will be available in the UK later this month, there is no word on a US release date as yet and no details on pricing.

Leica has a special event scheduled for the 9th of September, which is the same day as Apples special event, some photos have appeared on the Internet of a couple of new cameras from Leica, the M9 and X1.

The Leica M9 will comes with a full frame 18.2 megapxiel sensor, whilst the X9 will comes with a 12 megapxiel APS-C sensor and a fixed 24mm lens.

Unfortunately those are the only details available at the moment, I guess we will just have to wait until next week to see full specifications of the Leica M9 and X1.

It looks like the Olympus EP-1 just got some serious competition, with the launch of the latest Micro Four Thirds Camera from Panasonic, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is the worlds smallest and lightest system camera, a title previously held by the Olympus Ep-1, it comes with a 3 inch LCD screen with a Live View functionality, and a 4/3 type 12.1 megapixel Live MOS Sensor.

It will come in a range of colors including, true black, active red, and sleek sliver, and it is 35% smaller and 26% lighter than Panasonic’s current micro four thirds camera the G1.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 also comes with some built in art effects including Expressive, Retro, Pure, Elegant, Monochrome, Dynamic Art, and Silhouette.

It can record HD video in 720p in AVCHD Lite, and there are also a number of other movie formats supported including HD Motion, SPEG, QVGA, VGA and WVGA.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 will go on sale in October for $899.95, and there will be a couple of lens kits available including the Lumix G 20mm/F1.7 ASPH and the Lumix G Vario 14.5mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH.

We featured a number of Casio’s new compact digital cameras last week including the Casio Exilim EX-Z33, now we have another new camera from Casio, the EX-Z280.

The Casio EX-Z280 features a 12.1 megapixel sensor with a wide angle 26mm 4 x optical zoom, and is capable of recording HD video in 720p.

It features Casio’s Exlim Engine 4.0 processor, which is designed to deliver higher image quality and a lower power consumption, plus the high-speed dedicated image processing CPU, in addition to an ordinary CPU, allows the camera to perform complex processing right on the camera.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z280 will go on sale later in the month for $179.99.

Samsung has added a new compact digital camera to its range with the launch of the Samsung WB 5000, which features a 24x optical zoom lens, and a 3 inch LCD screen.

The Samsung WB 5000 comes with a 12.5 megapixel sensor, and it features a Schneider-KREUZNACH lens offers a 24x optical zoom with a 26mm wide-angle focal length (35mm film equivalent focal range of 26mm-624mm).

Photographers of all skill levels are going to be drawn to the WB5000’s features,” said Choong Hyun Hwang, Vice President of Strategic Marketing at Samsung Digital Imaging Company. “The versatility of the lens gives any user, whether you’re a soccer mom on the sidelines or an enthusiast looking to create a stunning image, the ability to be prepared for just about any shooting scenario.Serious shooters will gravitate toward the WB5000’s aperture and shutter priority modes as well as full manual control and RAW support.

The Olympus E600 DSLR features a 12.3 megapixel sensor, with a 2.7 inch swivel HyperCrystal LCD screen, and a bunch of art filters including a Soft Focus filter, a Pop Art filter which enhances colors, and a pin hole filter.

Canon EOS 7D Gets Official

Yesterday we saw a leaked photo and some specifications for Canon’s latest DSLR, today Canon has officially unveiled the Canon EOS 7D.

The Canon EOS 7D is designed to be used by professional photographers and advanced amateurs, it comes with an 18-megapixel Canon CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 4 Imaging Processors.

It features a 19 point Autofocus system, a new Canon iFCL metering system, with intelligent focus, color and luminance, plus a new intelligent viewfinder.

The Canon EOS 7D is capable of shooting Full HD video in 1080p at a frame rate of 24fps, 25fps or 30fps, it can also record 720p HD video at 60fps.

“The EOS 7D represents a completely new chapter in digital photography and Canon product development. This camera stands alone as the most functional and innovative DSLR Canon has released to-date, bringing together all of the best professional features offered, along with numerous user requests at a price-point everyone can appreciate,” stated Yuichi Ishizuka, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.

Details have been leaked of the latest high end DSLR from Canon, the Canon Eos 7D, including some photos and a full list of specifications.

Sony has added some new DSLR cameras to its range, the most notable one is the Sony Alpha 850 DSLR.

The Sony Alpha A850 DSLR comes with a 24.6 megapixel full frame Exmor CMOS sensor with dual BIONZ processing, a 3 inch LCD display, an ultra bright viewfinder, and SteadyShot inside image stabilisation.

It also feature continuous shooting of 3fps, HDMI out, and an intelligent preview function,and it supports up to ISO 6400.

The Sony Alpha A850 DSLR will go on sale for $2,000 for the body only, and Sony also offering a 28-75mm F2.8 SAM full frame lens, there is no word on pricing on this new lens as yet.

Sanyo has added a new camcorder to its Xacti range with the launch of the Sanyo Xacti CG-11.

The Sanyo Xacti CG-11 features a 10 megapixel CMOS sensor, and it can record HD video in 720p, it also has 5x optical zoom, SD/SDHC card support, a built in stereo microphone, plus a 3 inch TFT LCD screen.

It also has a built in mini HDMI connector, plus WiFi, and the WiFi uses the same technology that is used in Eye-Fi wireless SD card, so you can transfer your videos to your PC without any wires.

The Sanyo Xacti CG-11 will go on sale in Japan shortly for around $300, there is no word on when we will see it in the US and Europe.

Casio has added another compact digital camera to its range with the launch of the Casio Exilim EX-Z33.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z33 features a 10.1 megapixel sensor, has a 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch widescreen LCD display.

On top of that the Casio Exilim EX-Z33 features automatic face detection, and auto shutter mode which takes a photo when a subject smiles or there is no blur using blur detection technology.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z33 is designed as an entry level compact digital camera and it features a built in ‘Easy mode’, which is designed to make it easy for beginners to take photos.

The Ricoh CX2 Digital Compact Camera, features a 10.7 (28-300mm) optical wide angle zoom lens, with a compact body which is just 29.4mm thick.

It features a 9.29 CMOS Sensor, and a 3 inch LCD display, plus an ISO range from 80 to 1,600 as well as a ‘high contrast BW mode’ and a ‘miniaturize mode’

The Ricoh CX2 will go on sale in the UK and Japan in September for around $500.

Casio has added a pair of compact digital cameras to it range with the launch of the Casio Exilim EX-Z450 and EX-Z90.

The Casio Exilim EX-Z450 features a 12.1 megapixal sensor with 4 x optical zoom, and Casio’s Exilim Engine 4.0, it can record video in 720p, has an ISO range from 64 to 3200, and features a new auto focus mode which will automatically detect people and movements.

The Casio Exilim Ex-Z90 comes with a 12.1 megapixel sensor, 3 x optical zoom, ans also features Casio’s new auto focus mode, it has an ISO range of 64 to 1600 and can also record HD video in 720p.

There is no word on pricing as yet, both models will go on sale in Japan in September, there are no details on when we are likely to see them in the US and Europe.

Samsung has added a new compact digital camera to its range with the launch of the Samsung ST1000.

The Samsung St1000 features a 12.2 megapixel sensor, plus a 3.5 inch touch screen LCD, it also has WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS geotagging.

It comes with a 5 x zoom, can record video in HD at 720p, and can record HD video at 30fps in H.264.

The Samsung St1000 will go on sale for about $600.

Samsung has added a pair of new compact cameras to its range with the launch of the Samsung St500 and STG550.

Whats sets these compact digital cameras apart from ones available today is that they feature two LCD screens, as well as one on the back they also feature a small one on the front which is ideal for self portrait photos.

On the front of each camera is a 1.5 inch LCD display, the ST500 comes with a 3 inch touchscreen display on the back whilst the ST550 comes with a 3.5 inch touchscreen.

Both the ST500 and ST500 come with a 12.2 megapixel sensor, 4.6X optical zoom, Haptic feedback and can shoot HD video in 720p.

There is no word on pricing or availability as yet.

This is definitely one of the coolest cameras we have seen on geeky gadgets, the DORYU 2-16 Pistol Camera.

The DORYU 2-16 Pistol Camera was apparently issued to police in Japan and it has the same C mount as the 16mm movie camera, and the one in the photo features a Cine-Nikkor 25mm F1.4 lens.

If anyone find any more details about it let us know, it certainly looks very interesting from the photos.

Details have leaked online of a new Micro Four Thirds camera from Panasonic, the Panasonic Lumix GF1.

The Panasonic Lumix GF1 is reported to be slightly smaller than the Olympus Ep-1, and it will come with a built in flash and a movie record button, that will capture HD video in 720p in AVCHD format.

Unfortunately there are no further details on the Panasonic Lumix GF1, the pictures have come from a leaked internal Panasonic PDF.

Lets hope Panasonic provide some details soon, this is definitely going to be one to watch out for.
