Apple To Add iPhone OS To Other Platforms

Apple [AAPL] has advertised for an Engineering Manager to work with Apple’s Core OS team,  to bring the iPhone OS to other platforms, the Core OS team are currently responsible for the iPhone OS which has recently made its way on to new hardware the Apple iPad.

So what exactly does Apple have planned for the iPhone OS? Bringing the iPhone OS to new platforms could mean a number of things, maybe Apple have other devices in the works that they plan to launch with the iPhone operating system.

Apple iPhone Was The 3rd Most Popular Smartphone In 2009

Considering that Apple [AAPL] launched the first iPhone just under three years ago, and until then hadn’t made any mobile phones, the position they are in now is pretty impressive.

According to Gartner, the iPhone was the third most popular selling smartphone platform of 2009, taking 14.4 percent of all smartphone sales of the year, ahead of the iPhone were RIM and Symbian.

Did Apple’s A4 iPad Processor Cost $1 Billion To Develop?

Apple’s new iPad will feature a new processor which was developed by Apple [AAPL], and it is based on an ARM Cortex A9 MPCore processor, but how much did this chip cost Apple to develop?

According to the New York Times, the Apple A4 processor could have cost Apple as much as $1 Billion to develop, which is quite a bit of cash, but that doesn’t take into account the cost of building a factory to produce the processors which could be as much as $3 Billion.

Apple iPad Available To Pre-Order From Thursday?

The first models of the new Apple [AAPL] tablet are due to go on sale sometime in March, now it looks like you may be able to pre-order the WiFi iPad from as early as Thursday the 25th of February.

According to App Advice, who have said they have been told by a reliable source that it will be available to pre-order from Thursday, with a possible shipping date of the 26th of March 2010.

Video Chat Coming To The Next iPhone OS?

The guys over at 9.5 Mac have uncovered something interesting in the iPhone OS 3.2 SDK, possible evidence that future versions of the Apple iPhone and Apple iPhone will feature some sort of video chatting capability.

A couple of icons were discovered in the iPhone SDK 3.2 which seem to suggest that there will be video calling in a future device. Also found in the SDK were some iPad telephony applications that have some Video Chat strings.

Steve Jobs Says Flash Would Reduce iPad Battery Life To 1.5 Hours

In a recent meeting with Wall Street Journal executives, Apple [AAPL] CEO told them the reason that Adobe Flash will not be on the Apple iPad, according to Mr Jobs using Adobe Flash for video on the iPad would reduce the battery life from 10 hours to 1.5 hours.

Of course he was talking about the current version of Adobe Flash, which uses CPU acceleration, he also described it as a ‘CPU Hog’ with security holes, I guess we know his final opinion on Flash then he really doesn’t like it.

BBC Launching A Range Of iPhone Apps

The BBC has announced that it will be launching a range of mobile applications for the Apple iPhone from April, and that they also intend to launch the applications for other mobile phone platforms which include Google Android and for the BlackBerry range of handsets.

Initially there will be two iPhone applications available, one for news and one for sport, and that the applications will be available to download in April from the iPhone application store.

Aperture 3.0 Crashing Hard Drives Worldwide

The recently released professional photo software Aperture 3.0  by Apple has been causing entire Mac hard drives to lock.  The apparent memory leak bug in Aperture 3.0 is allowing the software to create enormous page files which take up all available storage space on the Macs make them fail.

a large number of disgruntled Aperture 3.0 users are complaining on the Apple discussion forums about the problems.  “It’s the worst Apple upgrade I’ve ever had, Aperture 3 is now unusable to me.” Discoteca claims.
