Free iPhone Apps Now Offer In App Purchases

Apple [AAPL] has added a new feature to the iPhone Application store that lets users purchase extra content through free iPhone applications.

Previously this feature was only available through iPhone applications that cost money, this is bound to be good news for developers who will be able to offer free iPhone applications and then let users purchase additional content for a small fee.

Apple Working On iPhone Radio App

According to 9to5Mac, Apple [AAPL] is working on an FM radio App for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and apparently the FM radio application will be for current models of the iPhone and iPod Touch.

It looks like Apple will use the FM transmitter which is currently in the iPhone and iPod Touch, but isn’t used form Fm radio at the moment.

Apple Causes Flash Memory Shortage …Again

It has been revealed that Apple is causing another Flash Memory shortage after  purchasing  huge quantities  from the top tier makers. This is making Taiwan’s memory module makers to diversify their NAND flash supplies to minimise procurement risks.

iPhone OS 3.1.2 Released

Apple [AAPL] has updated its iPhone OS to the latest version, iPhone OS 3.1.2, which is designed to fix a range of bugs.

The bug fixes include a fix which resolves sporadic issue that may cause the iPhone to not wake from sleep, and intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular services until restart, and a bug that could cause an occasional crash during video streaming.

Digg iPhone App in Development

The founder of Digg Kevin Rose has been spotted playing with the a Digg iPhone app in London while attending the Future of Web Apps conference.

The Crave crew he was hanging out with tried to get more information but Rose was tight lipped and said “You’re not even supposed to know about that.”

O2 To Unlock The iPhone After Contracts End?

Up until now, when an iPhone users contract has ended with O2, they have refused to unlock the iPhone so that it could be used on another network on the grounds that they have the exclusive rights for the iPhone.

As they have now lost the exclusive rights for the iPhone, with Vodafone and Orange offering it later this year, they cant really use that excuse anymore if a customer wants their iPhone unlocked.

According to AdMob’s latest report the  iPhone no has 40% of the smartphone market, up from 33% in February this year. Dont forget that AdMob’s numbers only represent mobile browser share within AdMob’s ad network but it is still an impressive gain.

Apple Buys Placebase Mapping Company

It seems like Apple [AAPL] purchased a mapping company back in July and nobody noticed, details have just emerged about the acquisition and Placebase produces a software API called PushPin.

Placebase’s former founder and CEO, Jaron Waldman is now working for Apple, and is part of their GEO Team, which obviously means that Apple are working on their own mapping software to replace Google Maps on the iPhone.

Apple iPhone Apps Reach 2 Billion Downloads

Apple [AAPL] has today announced another milestone it its massively popular iPhone and iPod Touch App store, they have now reached a massive 2 billi0n iPhone apps downloaded.

The news comes just five month after Apple announced, back in April that their app store had reached a massive 1 Billion downloads, and shows just how popular the iPhone and the app store is.

O2 UK Lose iPhone Exculsivity – iPhone Coming To Orange

UK mobile phone operator Orange and Apple [AAPL] have signed a deal, which sees O2 lose exclusivity to sell the iPhone in the UK, and Orange will be selling the iPhone 3G and 3GS in the UK before Christmas.

This is great new for UK iPhone users, many who have been unhappy, myself included with O2’s customer services, and overpriced Phone plans, and now we will see some competition in the market.
