This is far from a new device. These have been available for cameras for a long time. In fact, I have three of these in various sizes. Some digital cameras even come with one in the package.

Regarding whether this is new or not, the vendor’s site says that the Blur package includes a tripod adapter for the iPhone, a mini tripod and a software application. The tripod adapter is new. Nothing like this design exists on the market. Joby has a suction cup and adhesive but neither of Joby’s adapters form as secure a connection as the Blur product. I think you’re referring to the mini tripod when you say “these have been available for a long time”. That’s true but the adapter is the novel and new product here.
