Asus AiGuru SV1 Skype Videophone – Review
Asus’s AiGuru SV1 Skype Videophone is now available to buy, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on one to review.
The Asus AiGuru SV1 is designed to be used as a stand alone Skype unit that you can connect direct to your broadband.
In the box you get everything you need to get going. The Asus AiGuru SV1 features Ethernet, USB, a mic and headphone jack and of course built in WiFi. It also has a rechargeable battery which means it is portable so you can place it anywhere you want.
Setup is pretty easy, as soon as you turn the Asus AiGuru SV1 on, it lets you set the time and date, as soon as that is done it searches for wireless connections, it found mine in seconds and was able to connect straight away.
Once it is connected to the Internet all you need to do is sign in with your Skype user name and password, and you can make voice and video calls straight away.
Video calls are pretty clear, a lot clearer than on my PC using my webcam. The AiGuru SV1 features a 7 inch LCD display with a resolution of 800 x 400 and the web camera features a resolution of 640 x 480.
Normal calls are great also, the built in mic and speaker do a great job on voice calls and the sound is crystal clear.
The menu is very easy to navigate, with the arrow keys, and the interface is pretty simple and user friendly, which makes it an ideal solution for people who are looking for a simple and easy way to make video and voice calls over Skype without the need for a PC or Mac.
Overall I think the Asus AiGuru is a great Skype videophone, and i have actually enjoyed using it for my Skype calls more than using my headset and mic, as you can just have it sat on the desk and make calls easily.
The Asus AiGuru Sv1 Skype Videphone is now available to buy for £219.95 from the Skype Shop.

The only other review I found on this video phone mentioned that the image quality was very poor. Is your review an unbiased one?

Hi Randall
Thanks for the comments.
Our review is completely unbiased, we have no affiliation with Asus or Skype.
I have been using this for a while now and the video does work really well.

I agree that this is a fantastic product and works well, gives good results and other (pc users) say the picture is better than your average skype.
Its worth mentioning that the product has a fatal flaw. The wifi disconnects after a variable period, and you have to re-enter the wep key to reconect. A work around may be simply to use the wired connection. This is a particularly bad blemish on a product that we might all buy for our ellderly parents.

Also worth mentioning that you can use it on secured internet, but not unsecured like you would get in an internet cafe, because there is no web browser.
But, you know, this is not meant to be a portable phone, if you want to do that , buy something portable!
