ARM has added another mobile processor to its range, which is designed to be used in smartphones and tablets, the ARM Cortex A7 MPCore, which according to ARM is their most power efficient mobile processor to date.
The ARM Cortex A7 MPCore is a single core chip which is designed to be used in budget friendly tablets and smartphones, and it is around one fifth of the size of ARM Cortex A8 processor, and it is 5 time more energy efficient that the A8.
By developing big.LITTLE processing and the Cortex-A7 processor, ARM has addressed the challenge for technology that can deliver both high-performance, required for content creation and consumption, while also delivering extreme power efficiency for extended battery life. This is particularly pertinent as smartphones and tablets continue to evolve into the primary platforms that consumers use to interact with our increasingly connected world.
ARM has said that the first smartphones and devices that will use the new Cortex A7 MPCore processor should be out in 2013.
