After Snowden shed some light on the US government spying on everybody on the planet, everyone is paranoid. Many think that tech companies are working hand in hand with the NSA. Tech companies have denied those claims and are now starting to prove that they don’t like what is going on either.
The Washington Post reports that tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google will now be updating their policies, which will now include routine notification to users whenever the authorities request secret data from them. If the NSA wants to know what you search for, or what you buy online etc, the companies will let YOU know about it. This does not mean that these tech companies won’t comply with requests, but you will be aware of what’s going on. Then you can be appropriately outraged.
This is a way for tech companies to be more transparent and honest with their customers and not have to side with big brother. Meanwhile big brother is crying that this will tip off criminals. Funny, that. The only criminals I ever fear are the ones in government.
