Cool Mods – The Han Solo in Carbonite Desk

This has to be the coolest desk I have seen, it was created by Tom Spina Designs for one of their clients.

Cool Mods - The Han Solo in Carbonite Desk

We had someone looking for a highly unique desk with a space or SW theme for his home theater/home studio office. I created several designs and eventually hit upon the idea of using a Han in carbonite as the top of an combination desk and art piece.

I did the initial concept and sketches and Richard handled the details, worked with the metal shop and did the final build. Two RPF’rs also contributed resin detail pieces (where better to go than the RPF for the best parts around?).

The main “box” for the desk is custom metal, as are the computer cut side boxes which both light up with an orange glow. The piece is finished with a 1/2? thick glass table top.

This is a truly amazing desk, I would love to have one of these in my office, I bet it wasn’t cheap though.

Cool Case Mods – The Stealthdesk PC Desk

Check out this amazing desk with a built in PC from moder Chris Samson.

Cool Case Mods - The Stealthdesk PC Desk

… essentially its a desk that i made, then i put the computer in a drawer and enclosed a 22″ widescreen LCD in the middle and put the LCD on an actuator. so all i do is push a button and the computer turns on and at the same time the actuator raises the screen. i made this between January to November 2007. it was part of my final year of high school for design and technology project here in Australia!

This is an awesome mod, and it looks like Chris put a serious amount of work into this project, I love the way the screen disappears into the desk.

Cool Concepts – The iStick

Check out this cool concept from designer Alexei Mikhailov, the iStick.

Cool Concepts - The iStick

Designer Alexei Mikhailov isn’t out to convince people his iStick concept is the perfect mobile convergence device. In fact he clearly points out the iStick isn’t for viewing movies and the screen is too small for effective photo viewing. What it does have is a visual replication of the iPhone/Touch space inside a device the size of a lipstick tube.

Big square icons and of course Coverflow let you navigate the Mac way. What’s interesting is his surface design. All four surfaces are touchscreens which could present some interesting and unique interface design. The integrated WIFI also enables you to browse iTunes. It’s not an iPod replacement per say. Think of it more as a big brother to the iPod Shuffle.
